Description
Kagerou is a supporting character and antagonist in the anime Summoned to Another World for a Second Time. He is a demon who first appears as a subordinate of the demon general Tōma, to whom he shows a degree of loyalty. He is hired by the noble Teran Sneeter to act as a bodyguard, a role that brings him into direct conflict with the protagonist, Setsu Suzaki.
In terms of personality, Kagerou is defined by a calculating and pragmatic nature. He is a realist who prioritizes his own survival above all else, including any sense of loyalty to his employers. This self-serving mindset becomes evident during a fight with Setsu, where Kagerou coolly assesses that the battle is turning against his client and abandons Teran without hesitation to save himself. He also displays an opportunistic and ruthless streak, as he later attempts to ambush and kill the weakened group of Yuuhi Hanabashira after they have been exhausted from a separate battle. Despite his cunning, his lack of true conviction and his tendency to seek out easy victories ultimately lead to his downfall.
Kagerou's primary role in the story is that of an antagonistic force, serving as an obstacle for the main characters to overcome. His initial role as a bodyguard leads to a confrontation with Setsu during a disrupted wedding event. After surviving that encounter, he reappears to menace Yuuhi and his friends when they are vulnerable, re-engaging with Setsu. He does not have any significant positive relationships and is not shown to undergo any meaningful character development or redemption. His actions consistently demonstrate his treacherous and self-interested nature, and he meets his end as a direct result of these traits.
Kagerou's most notable ability is his power to manipulate shadows. This talent allows him to control both his own shadow and those in his surroundings, giving him a versatile skillset. He can use shadows for both offensive and defensive purposes, creating unpredictable attacks that make him a formidable opponent. Additionally, he is a skilled swordsman, combining his physical combat skills with his shadow magic to become a proficient warrior. Despite his impressive abilities, his opportunistic tactics and lack of genuine strength when confronted directly by a powerful opponent like Setsu ultimately prove to be his undoing.
