Description
Jubia Lockser, also known as Juvia in some adaptations, is a water magic wizard who originally belonged to the guild Phantom Lord as one of its Element 4. Following the guild's dissolution after a conflict with Fairy Tail, she joined the latter guild, where she has remained a loyal and powerful member. In Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, Jubia continues to be a prominent supporting character, deeply integrated into the lives of her fellow guild members, particularly Gray Fullbuster.
Jubia’s personality is defined by a dramatic shift from her initial portrayal. Once a gloomy and impassive woman known as the rain woman because rain clouds would constantly follow her, she has blossomed into a far more joyful and expressive individual since joining Fairy Tail. Her most defining trait remains her intense, unwavering love for Gray Fullbuster, which began the moment she fought him during the Phantom Lord arc. She often refers to herself in the third person and can become highly emotional, prone to dramatic fantasies about her relationship with Gray, as well as fits of jealousy when other women approach him. Despite this obsessive exterior, she is deeply kind, loyal, and values the friendship and family-like bonds of Fairy Tail. She sees Lucy Heartfilia not only as a rival for Gray's affection but also as a dear friend. Her motivations in the 100 Years Quest story are largely tied to her relationship with Gray; she is driven by a desire to support him and see their bond grow, while also protecting her newfound family.
In the 100 Years Quest storyline, Jubia’s primary role is interwoven with Gray’s personal journey. While not a core member of the main questing team, she remains an active Fairy Tail wizard whose presence is felt through her relationship with Gray, who has confirmed his romantic feelings for her. Her key relationship is undeniably with Gray Fullbuster. Their dynamic in the sequel has matured significantly. In a pivotal battle against Metro, a God Seed of the Wood Dragon God Aldoron, Jubia is absorbed by the enemy. Gray refuses to attack her, declaring, She is my power to live. This confession of her importance to him causes Jubia to become so emotionally overwhelmed that she raises her own body temperature, turning into boiling water and injuring her captor from within. This moment showcases the depth of their mutual trust and reliance on one another, a far cry from Gray's initial avoidance of her. Their relationship has developed over years of shared battles and personal trials, with 100 Years Quest depicting them as a trusted and coordinated pair whose feelings are finally mutual.
Jubia’s development in this sequel arc reinforces her growth from a lonely, rain-soaked outcast into a confident woman whose emotional strength directly fuels her power. Her abilities as a water mage are considerable. She can manipulate water for various attacks and defensive maneuvers, and her body itself can turn into water, making her intangible and immune to physical blows. In the 100 Years Quest, her combat prowess is highlighted in her teamwork with Gray. Their ice and water magics are highly compatible, allowing them to perform powerful combination attacks. In the fight against Metro, they execute techniques like Unison Raid Ice Wave, Juvia Hammer, and Gray directly freezing her water form to create Juvia Freeze, demonstrating a seamless synergy in battle that reflects their close bond. This combination of emotional depth and powerful, cooperative magic defines her role in the ongoing story.
