Description
Gajeel Redfox is a Dragon Slayer mage from the Fairy Tail guild who remains in the town of Magnolia while his guild mates Natsu Dragneel, Lucy Heartfilia, and the rest of their team depart on the dangerous 100 Years Quest to the continent of Guiltina. During the events of the sequel series, Gajeel takes on the role of a guardian and investigator, staying behind to protect the guild's home front. His primary motivation in this part of the story is his deep suspicion regarding a mysterious new recruit named Touka, whose behavior he finds increasingly strange and potentially dangerous. Driven by a protective instinct over his guild, he begins to secretly surveil her alongside his trusted partner, the Exceed Panther Lily.

Gajeel's personality continues to reflect his growth from a former enemy of Fairy Tail into one of its most loyal and stalwart defenders. He is gruff, pragmatic, and alert, trusting his instincts even when others are more welcoming of the newcomer. This suspicion proves to be well-founded when it is revealed that Touka is possessed by a malevolent entity known as the White Wizard. In a key confrontation, Gajeel works alongside Juvia Lockser, Levy McGarden, and the wizard Jellal Fernandes to subdue the possessed woman. His relationship with Levy, his former tormentor turned closest companion, remains a significant part of his character, and she is present with him during several of these events.

Despite his efforts, Gajeel eventually falls victim to the White Wizard's power. In a significant turn of events, he is "whitened," or brainwashed, along with other powerful members of the guild like Mirajane Strauss and Laxus Dreyar. This forces him into a tragic role as a brainwashed antagonist, compelled to attack his own guild mates when they return to rescue their home. His role in the story also extends to the battle against the massive Wood Dragon God, Aldoron. During this fight, with the assistance of the former Spriggan 12 member Brandish, Gajeel’s body is magically enlarged to a colossal size to combat the gigantic dragon god, though this power comes with a strict time limit of only three minutes.

Gajeel’s development in the 100 Years Quest centers on his unwavering commitment to his guild's safety, even when it means standing apart from the main adventure. His notable abilities remain rooted in his Iron Dragon Slayer magic, which allows him to consume iron to replenish his strength and transform his body into a metallic substance for both offensive and defensive purposes. These powers are enhanced in his battle against Aldoron, culminating in a dramatic, oversized brawl that demonstrates the extremes to which he will go to protect his friends and defeat a massive threat.
