Description
Jircniv Rune Farlord El-Nix is the current emperor of the Baharuth Empire, a powerful human nation in the New World. He is a young man of twenty-two years, possessing blond hair and clear purple eyes, and is noted for his handsome and aristocratic bearing. His title, the Bloody Emperor, was earned not through cruelty for its own sake, but from the decisive and harsh actions he took to secure his throne. After his mother was accused of assassinating the previous emperor, a young Jircniv was forced to eliminate his own relatives and many incompetent nobles to consolidate his power, an event that left a lasting, broken part of his heart. Despite this bloody rise to power, his reign has brought prosperity and hope to the common people of the empire, as he replaced a stagnant old system with one centered on merit and loyalty.
As a ruler, Jircniv is defined by his charismatic and visionary ambition. He is a rational and pragmatic leader who prioritizes the survival and prosperity of the Baharuth Empire above all else. His outward persona is one of calm confidence, friendly politeness, and perfect control, as he believes that people will only follow strong leaders. A master of courtly culture and politics, he uses a warm smile and amiable demeanor to disarm opponents and manipulate situations to his advantage. Beneath this composed surface, however, is a deeply calculating and ambitious mind. He is not interested in power for its own sake but views it as a tool to forge an empire that will stand the test of time. To this end, he is willing to make hard decisions, such as taking multiple mistresses to ensure a capable heir, or sacrificing his personal feelings for the good of the state. His past betrayals have made it difficult for him to trust others, particularly women in positions of power, and he maintains a private mental ranking of female rulers he finds disagreeable.
Jircnivs role in the story shifts dramatically with the emergence of the Sorcerer King, Ainz Ooal Gown. Initially, Jircniv saw Ainz as a potentially useful pawn and sought to gather information on him to determine if he was a threat to the empire. He orchestrated a plan to send workers into the Great Tomb of Nazarick to assess Ainz's power and weaken the Re-Estize Kingdom's ties to him. This plan catastrophically backfired. When he was forced to lead a delegation to Nazarick to apologize, he was overwhelmed by the immense power and luxury he witnessed, including Death Knights that far surpassed his entire imperial army. For the first time, Jircniv realized he was facing an indomitable force, comparing his own empire to a lion and Nazarick to a dragon.
The psychological stress of dealing with Ainz takes a massive physical and mental toll on Jircniv. He begins suffering from constant stomach aches and hair loss, and his paranoia leads him to feel as though he is always being watched. At the annual war on the Katze Plains, Jircniv, wanting to assess Ainz's full power, asked him to cast his strongest spell. When Ainz annihilated nearly two hundred thousand soldiers with a single spell, Jircniv was pushed to the brink of his sanity. All his subsequent attempts to form a grand alliance against the Sorcerer Kingdom, including secret negotiations with the Slane Theocracy, were inadvertently and effortlessly foiled by Ainz's seemingly unpredictable actions. Eventually, beaten down and seeing no other path to protect his people, Jircniv made the decision to voluntarily offer his empire as a vassal state to the Sorcerer Kingdom. Ironically, after surrendering, his stress levels decreased dramatically, and he found relief in shifting much of his burden to Ainz.
Jircnivs key relationships are defined by this central conflict. He had a respectful rivalry with Gazef Stronoff of the Re-Estize Kingdom and values loyalty from his subordinates, though he is aware that some, like the Imperial Knight Leinas, are not wholly loyal. His teacher, the great magic caster Fluder Paradyne, ultimately betrayed him out of devotion to Ainz's superior magic. Jircnivs most significant relationship is, of course, with Ainz Ooal Gown, a being he sees as an incomprehensible genius whose every move is part of a master plan far beyond his own understanding. In a bizarre turn of events, he later develops an odd friendship with Riyuro, the leader of the Quagoa, as they are both rulers who have been forced into vassalage under the Sorcerer Kingdom.
Jircniv possesses notable abilities, though they are primarily political and intellectual rather than martial. He is a supremely talented ruler, considered a genius even among a line of distinguished emperors, ranking second in the authors own index of capable kings. His analytical skills are incredibly sharp, allowing him to deduce betrayals and see through schemes where even powerful magic casters cannot. He also possesses a kind of sixth sense, an acute intuition that allowed him to correctly feel when Ainz was watching him with surveillance magic, despite having no magical means to detect it. While not a front-line fighter, he has military experience from the empire's border wars and holds classes such as Emperor and High Emperor. One of his stranger skills is ventriloquism, which serves as a metaphor for his expertise in political intrigue and making others speak to his advantage. He is also shown to wear an amulet that protects him from mind control, as evidenced when he resisted Demiurges Compelling Voice.
