Description
Baron Montserrat is a minor noble from the Re-Estize Kingdom and the unnamed former head of the Montserrat family. He is the father of three sons, including his youngest, Philip Dayton L'Eyre Montserrat. Following the death of his eldest son during the Annual War and his second son from illness, the baron was forced to elevate his remaining and least capable child, Philip, to the position of family heir. He is described as having an anemic face that can easily redden when he becomes infuriated.

The baron is a serious individual who is deeply concerned with the practical and realistic methods required to preserve his household. He is shown to be a highly competent nobleman, intelligent enough to manage his domain's affairs properly, understand its weaknesses and strengths, and navigate the complex system of power within the Re-Estize Kingdom's nobility. He also holds a grudge, never forgetting that the Sorcerer King was responsible for the death of his eldest son.

His primary role in the story is to serve as a foil to his son's incompetence and as a voice of reason within the Montserrat household. After Philip becomes a baron, the senior Montserrat constantly attempts to advise and help his son with his new duties. He offers good suggestions and careful strategies to maintain their lands and interact with other nobles. However, due to Philip's immense ego, unfounded arrogance, and willful rejection of any guidance, the baron's advice is consistently ignored. His son dismisses his competent counsel as stupid, leading the baron to suffer near-constant stress and eventually give up on helping Philip entirely.

The baron's key relationship is with his son Philip, which is one of utter frustration and eventual hatred. Philip views his father as having a slave mindset for showing deference to superiors and lacking ambition. Conversely, the baron loses all faith in his son's abilities, believing he will inevitably fail at any normal social interaction. This relationship completely shatters when Philip's foolish actions spark the war with the Sorcerer Kingdom that leads to the fall of their homeland.

In terms of development, the character transforms from a frustrated and worried parent trying to salvage his family's legacy into a man consumed by vengeful spite. During the final massacre of his fiefdom by Albedo, Baron Montserrat does not beg for mercy. Instead, he requests that his executioner inflict upon his son the same pain and suffering that Philip brought upon their countrymen. This last request is his final act of vengeance against his foolish child.

Regarding notable abilities, Baron Montserrat possesses no magical or exceptional combat powers. His abilities are those of political acumen and administrative competence. He is a minor baron whose family is subordinate to a count. He once owned a suit of full plate armor passed down from his ancestors, but it was given to his eldest son for the war and was lost during the Massacre at Katze Plains. His true strength lies in his wisdom and insight as a ruler, possessing enough knowledge to know how Philip's genius suggestions would cause severe damage to their lands.
