Description
Haruto Zenfis is the central character of his story, a young man whose journey begins not with a heroic summons but with a quiet, lonely end. In his previous life, he was a junior high school student who became a victim of relentless bullying, eventually withdrawing from society to become a shut-in for five years. Upon his death, he was given a second chance and reincarnated into a fantasy world as a baby named Reinhardt, born to a king and queen. However, this new beginning was immediately complicated. A test of his magical capacity showed a level of 1002, but the kingdom's measuring device could only display two digits, leading everyone to believe he was exceptionally weak, with a level of just 2. Declared stillborn to protect the royal family's reputation, the infant was abandoned in a remote forest to die.

This abandonment set the course for his new life. Alone in the wilderness, the infant Haruto discovered his true power, a unique form of non-attribute barrier magic, and used it to subdue a powerful magical beast, the Fenrir named Flay. Shortly after, he was discovered and adopted by Gold Zenfis, a distant relative of his biological family. Renamed Haruto Zenfis, he was welcomed into the Zenfis household, where he found a true family including a kind adopted mother and a younger sister, Charlotte.

Haruto’s personality is defined by a powerful contradiction. His deepest wish, stemming from the trauma of his past life, is to live as a quiet shut-in, free from responsibility and the spotlight. He is fundamentally lazy, lacking ambition for grand adventures or heroic deeds. Yet, he possesses a good heart and is easily drawn into helping others, especially when it risks unwanted attention. The one force that reliably motivates him to action is his love for his adopted sister, Charlotte. He dotes on her and will go to great lengths to make her happy, even if it means embarrassing himself or taking on the role of a superhero. When his or his family's safety is threatened, his passive nature vanishes, revealing a ruthless and protective side, particularly in his hatred for his birth mother, Gizelotte, whom he views with immense cruelty and is willing to kill to protect Charlotte from her.

His key relationships are central to the narrative. His bond with Charlotte is his primary motivation, as her admiration pushes him to act. His relationship with Flay, the Fenrir, began as a battle but evolved into a master-servant dynamic, with Flay becoming a loyal and powerful attendant. He also shows a strong intolerance for sex crimes and other injustices, as seen when he protected a fellow student named Irisphilia from harassment, cursing the perpetrator with lasting pain. A unique relationship he has is with a magical copy of himself he created, sometimes called Haruto C or Copy Haruto. This sentient duplicate, who is physically identical but lacks magical power and has subtle differences like an extra cowlick, was made to handle public duties and school, allowing the real Haruto more time for his preferred secluded lifestyle. The two share a mutual annoyance, as they are so alike in their laziness.

In terms of development, Haruto’s journey is less about gaining power and more about navigating the consequences of his overwhelming strength. He consistently underestimates his own abilities, believing in the flawed assessment that his magic level is only 2, which leads him to be shocked when he effortlessly defeats powerful foes. Much of his story involves him trying to maintain a low profile while his actions as the masked hero Shiva, a persona he adopted to entertain Charlotte, inadvertently draw more attention. He has matured from the helpless victim of his past life, but his unresolved trauma still makes him deeply uncomfortable in social settings like school.

Haruto’s notable abilities are nearly limitless. His core power is his mastery of barrier magic, which he can shape and manipulate with incredible precision for a vast array of purposes including offense, defense, healing, flight, and even teleportation by creating gates. Because this magic is non-attribute, it is considered a form of ancient magic, making him a source of wrong-context magic in a world that relies on the four classical elements. With his colossal mana reserves, he can also use all elemental attributes freely and combine them into complex spells. He is so powerful that he has been mistaken for a god or the reincarnation of the Demon King by beings sensitive to magical energy. His signature secret identity is the Black Knight, or Shiva, a persona he adopts while wearing a dark cloak and a one-way helmet. In this form, he acts more like a traditional hero, using force to protect Charlotte without revealing his true face.
