Description
Ludwig Hewitt is a government official within the Tearmoon Empire who dedicates himself to saving the empire from economic collapse. He is the second son of a mercantile family and was noted for his sharp intellect from a young age. From early on, he dreamed of becoming a civil servant, but as he studied toward that goal, he quickly became disillusioned by the deep-seated corruption he encountered. This disillusionment grew into a strong contempt for the blue-blooded nobles and members of the imperial family, whom he saw as bragging about their high birth while the empire rotted from within.
Ludwig’s personality is marked by a keen analytical mind and a principled disdain for inherited privilege. Initially, he is cynical and sharp-tongued toward those he deems undeserving of their status. However, after experiencing the actions of Princess Mia Luna Tearmoon in the reset timeline, his perspective shifts dramatically. He misinterprets her self-serving, survival-driven decisions as acts of brilliant foresight, and as a result, he begins to believe she is exactly the kind of leader he has been searching for—someone capable of bringing the necessary reforms to the empire. This misunderstanding leads him to swear undying loyalty to her, a devotion that borders on fanaticism. In the new timeline, after Mia recruits him, he becomes calmer and more patient than his earlier self, and he is humbled when Mia inadvertently repeats a lecture he had given her in the previous timeline.
Ludwig’s primary motivation is to reform the Tearmoon Empire and secure its prosperity. His hatred of corruption and his desire for a just, well-governed state drive him to work tirelessly. When he becomes convinced that Mia embodies that ideal, his motivation becomes entangled with personal loyalty to her.
In the story, Ludwig serves as one of Mia’s most trusted strategists and a key civil official. He uses his knowledge of economics and administration to help navigate the empire’s financial crises. His role is that of a loyal subject who misreads Mia’s intentions but nonetheless provides invaluable support, often interpreting her actions in ways that serve the greater good by accident.
His key relationships revolve around Princess Mia. He becomes her devoted right hand, though his loyalty is based on a misunderstanding of her true nature. There is also a subtle mentorship dynamic that reverses itself over time. He has limited meaningful interaction with other nobles due to his disdain for them, but his loyalty to Mia puts him at odds with the old guard.
Ludwig undergoes notable development over the course of the series. He transforms from a cynical, disillusioned official who despises the imperial family into a fiercely loyal subject who believes in Mia’s ability to change the empire. The reset timeline softens his demeanor, making him more patient and less confrontational, while still retaining his sharp intellect.
His notable abilities include a talent for economic strategy and administrative reform. He is exceptionally hardworking and perceptive, able to identify systemic problems and propose practical solutions. He is also a skilled orator and negotiator, capable of influencing others through logic and persistence. His most defining trait is his unwavering dedication to his principles, even if those principles become channeled through an idealized vision of his princess.
