Description
Akira Kuno is the true identity behind the pseudonymous manga author Anno Un, a character whose life is defined by isolation, creativity, and a deep-seated desire to connect with others. Originally an ordinary and cheerful boy with a love for drawing and reading manga, Akira lived alone with his mother after his father passed away from an illness. Their close bond was strengthened by her habit of reading manga to him, which fostered his own passion for creating stories to see her smile.
Akira's life took a tragic turn when he stumbled upon a mysterious artifact known as the G-Liner pen. Upon touching it, he was granted omniscient knowledge of the world's past and future events across the current loop. However, this gift came with a devastating price: the god Sun forced the Negator ability called Unknown upon him. This ability negates Akira's very existence from being perceived by anyone, making him completely invisible, intangible, and undetectable. The cruel irony of this power is that while he can see and hear the world around him, no one can see, hear, or touch him, effectively erasing him from the lives of everyone he knows. The trauma of this event is immediate and profound; after realizing what had happened, he watched helplessly as his mother desperately searched for him, crying and praying for his safety, unable to reassure her that he was standing right beside her.
Despite this overwhelming isolation, Akira's creative and relaxed mindset allowed him to adapt and find a way to interact with the world. He discovered that the G-Liner pen had an additional power: it could manifest anything he drew into reality, though it could only materialize one drawing at a time. Using this ability, he created a physical avatar for himself, a separate body he named Anno Un, which could be seen and interacted with by others. To communicate his knowledge of the future and guide the Negators he saw as heroes, particularly Andy and Fuuko, he began writing a manga series titled To You, From Me under the Anno Un pen name. The manga became a bestseller, but its true purpose was to leave a coded message of hope and a roadmap for a better future, a desperate attempt to connect with and save others from his lonely fate. His ultimate, heartbreaking goal was to use his Anno Un form to finally see his mother again, but by the time he figured out how to do so, she had already passed away.
In terms of personality, Akira demonstrates a creative, relaxed, and surprisingly spontaneous mindset, which allows him to make quick decisions in high-pressure situations. His deep admiration for Andy and Fuuko, whom he considers his favorite characters due to their characteristics and actions, fuels his motivation to help them. His key relationships are thus paradoxically both distant and intimate; he is a silent, unseen observer to most of the world, but through his manga, he becomes a guiding force for the Union. His relationship with his mother is the emotional core of his backstory, representing everything he lost and everything he was trying to regain. His sacrifice is ultimately for the sake of others, showing a selfless nature born from his own suffering.
Akira's development in the story is a tragic arc of sacrifice and resolution. He eventually uses the G-Liner to help the Union capture the UMA Autumn, a battle that leads to the destruction of his Anno Un avatar and the pen itself, severing his last link to being perceived by the world. Without the pen, he can no longer materialize his drawings or create a new avatar, resigning him to a permanent state of invisibility and isolation now that his manga is finished. In the subsequent 101st loop, however, his fate is altered. Fuuko, armed with the knowledge from the previous loop, actively prevents Akira from ever touching the G-Liner, thereby saving him from becoming a Negator and allowing him to live a peaceful, happy life with his mother.
Akira's notable abilities stem from his two artifacts and his Negator power. His primary Negator ability is Unknown, which makes him undetectable by any means, allowing him to phase through objects and people as if he were a ghost. He also possessed the G-Liner pen artifact, which granted him omniscient knowledge of the past and future of the loop and could bring his drawings to life, a power he used to create his Anno Un body and various other objects. Finally, he wielded the Soul Caliber, a small orb capable of extracting a person's soul from their body and sealing it inside an object.
