Description
Lumielle René Palettia is a spirit covenantor and the ancestor of the royal family of the Kingdom of Palettia. Over one thousand years old, she has maintained her youthful appearance due to the nature of her spirit contract. She is often called Lumi by those who know her. She has light blonde hair and golden eyes.
Lumielle's background is deeply tied to the founding of Palettia. She was born to the first king of the kingdom, who had entered into a spirit covenant to help his people cultivate the land. Wanting to support her father and the nation, she also entered into a spirit covenant. Over time, the people became greedy and demanded that her father use his power to conquer other lands, a request he could not refuse due to the terms of his covenant. Unable to bear seeing her father used as a weapon, Lumielle killed him for the greater good of the kingdom. After his death, she became the new queen but was largely a figurehead, leaving the actual governance to her husband, a Traveler from another world who established the foundations of modern Palettia. Eventually, believing her immortality made it best for her to step away, she abdicated the throne and abandoned her family to go into isolation. As centuries passed, she was largely forgotten by the people. She lives deep in the Black Forest.
In terms of personality, Lumielle has a mischievous and playful nature, but she is also notably honest and blunt when answering questions. She is straightforward in her warnings, such as when she cautioned that becoming a spirit through a covenant would likely cause a person to lose sight of what it means to be human, as she did herself. Despite her ancient age, she does not present herself as overly serious or aloof.
Her motivations stem from her long history and the wisdom gained over more than a thousand years. She reappears in the story primarily to guide the young noblewoman Euphyllia Magenta toward the path of becoming a spirit contractor. This guidance is a key part of her role in the overall narrative. She also serves as a living link to the kingdom's past and a source of knowledge about the true nature of spirit contracts.
Lumielle's key relationships include her bond with Euphyllia, whom she guides, and her distant connection to the current royal family as their ancestor. Her relationships in the past include her father, the first king, and her husband, the Traveler. Her decision to isolate herself means she has few present-day connections.
In terms of development, Lumielle has grown from a daughter who wished to help her father, to a queen who made a terrible sacrifice, to a lonely immortal who chose to withdraw from the world. Her reappearance to help Euphyllia suggests a possible shift toward re-engagement.
Regarding abilities, Lumielle is a spirit covenantor, a rare and powerful status. Over a thousand years, she has honed her magical abilities to an immense degree. She was confident in her own ability to single-handedly take on a dragon that required the combined effort of Anisphia and Euphyllia to defeat, demonstrating her formidable power. Her long life has allowed her to accumulate immeasurable magical skill and knowledge.
