Description
Robert T. Sturgeon began his career in the United States Army Special Forces, undertaking missions against supernatural threats. He fought the Chaos Tribesmen and their leader Ashtar, forging an alliance with ninja Ryu Hayabusa during these operations. Providing crucial intelligence and tactical support, Sturgeon intervened to rescue Ryu during clashes with Ashtar and later held back demonic forces to facilitate Ryu's chase of Jaquio—an act presumed fatal at the time.
After military service, he became a private investigator, co-founding the Sturgeon & Hammond Detective Agency in New York City with partner Jeff Hammond. This role let him independently investigate occult and supernatural cases while maintaining ties to Ryu Hayabusa and curio shop owner Irene Lew.
Operating as a detective, Sturgeon probed cases involving biotechnology and demonic schemes, like those orchestrated by Professor Bucky-Wise and Ned Friedman. He blended standard investigative methods—witness interviews and evidence collection—with armed combat when required. His operations often involved coordination with partner Jeff and reporter girlfriend Sara, though he excluded them from hazardous field work to ensure their safety.
Sturgeon’s personality merges military pragmatism with sardonic wit. He shows fierce loyalty to allies like Ryu and Jeff and openly states motivations, such as enjoying "fighting, alcohol, and women" during a mission. He typically wields versatile firearms: a Beretta 92F/FS pistol, Remington 870 shotgun, and Vektor R4 rifle for high-stakes confrontations against biological abominations.
His chronological involvement starts during Ashtar and Jaquio’s attempt to open the Gate of Darkness, continues through his agency’s Bucky-Wise conspiracy investigation, and includes a brief cameo providing aerial extraction support in later events.
