TV-Series
Description
Kei Uomi is a professional gamer affiliated with the Nitro Squad esports team and is recognized as one of Japan’s elite fighting game players. He entered the esports scene roughly three years before the events of the series, rising quickly through the ranks with minimal losses. This trajectory led him to a match against the top American pro-gamer Sylvia Goldberg in the Galaxia Heroes: Burst World Championship. After a thorough preparation, Uomi suffered a defeat that left him shocked by the skill gap between them, establishing a personal rivalry as he vowed to eventually beat Goldberg.

In the real world, Kei Uomi has blonde hair and typically wears casual clothes such as a blue jacket over an orange shirt. In his daily life, he is described as a friendly and sociable individual. However, his personality shifts when he enters the virtual space of Shangri-La Frontier, where he plays under the avatar name Oikatzo, also spelled Oicazzo or Oikatso. Oikatzo is a blonde-haired female character with an androgynous appearance, which stands in deliberate contrast to Uomi’s real-life male identity. As this in-game persona, he adopts a much more passionate, gutsy, and tomboyish attitude.

Uomi’s connection to the protagonist, Sunraku, was forged through their mutual love of "trash games," which are titles notorious for their glitches and poor design. They first met in a game called Berserk Online Passion, where Uomi was so impressed by Sunraku’s skills that he attempted to recruit him for his esports team. Although Sunraku declined due to personal commitments, the two maintained a friendship. Later, they teamed up in another flawed game, Unite Rounds, to challenge the dominant player known as the Pencil Knight, who would later become Arthur Pencilgon. Their confrontation ended in a draw, forging a begrudging camaraderie among the three players.

His motivation for playing Shangri-La Frontier is directly tied to his professional career. He aims to familiarize himself with the game’s system because it uses the same engine as Galaxia Heroes, the major title in his competitive fighting scene. He is also shown to be a thoughtful player, often reflecting on the strategies of others and wondering how he would perform in their place during difficult battles. Alongside Sunraku and Pencilgon, he co-founds the guild Wolfgang, which focuses on taking on high-level challenges such as the game’s ultimate bosses, the Seven Colossi.

Within the game, Oikatzo’s combat style is defined by his choice of class and abilities. His main job is a Monk, specifically a Spirit Fist User, which allows him to use powerful buffs and unarmed attacks but prevents him from equipping standard weapons or heavy armor. This build grants him high HP and vitality, functioning like a light fighter designed to soak up and deflect damage. His Spirit Fist techniques include a progression of buffs: Red increases strength and vitality, Black temporarily boosts damage, Crimson Cannon combines both for greater effect, and Dark Overstrike is a powerful tricolor energy sphere that consumes a large amount of stamina. His attack skills include Crush Uppercut, which can deliver a one-hit knockout, and Human Pile Bunker, a lunging punch capable of piercing armor. The latter proved critical during the guild’s battle against the Colossi boss Wezaemon, where it was used to breach the armor of his Kirin mount.

Complementing his primary class is his sub-job as an Archaeologist, an explorer who uses a whip and a little bit of magic to uncover ancient knowledge. This allows him to use tools like the Snakerope Life Rein and skills such as Ruin Sense for analyzing structures and unlocking doors. His equipment remains light to support his fighting style, including pieces like the Ascetic’s Robe set. He also possesses the unique accessory Inventoria Key, a bracelet that grants access to a special area after the defeat of Wezaemon. Beyond his class abilities, his proficiency is further demonstrated by his real-world rodeo skills, as he is ranked third in the country in the game Cavalry Crisis, a talent that helped him stay mounted during the chaotic fight against Wezaemon.

Uomi continues to grow as a player throughout the story, later participating with Sunraku and Pencilgon in the Global Games Competition with the aim of defeating Sylvia Goldberg. This arc highlights his ongoing development and adaptability, though his tendency to rely on pre-researching opponents can sometimes leave him vulnerable to unfamiliar tactics, as shown in a loss to one of Goldberg’s teammates.
