Description
Yoo Jin-Ho is a D-Rank Hunter and a central supporting figure who becomes the closest friend and ally to the protagonist. He is the second son of the chairman of Yoojin Construction, one of the largest and wealthiest corporations in South Korea, a background that significantly influences his initial approach to being a Hunter. Despite his family's immense wealth, Jin-Ho chooses to forge his own path in the dangerous world of Hunters, driven by a deep-seated desire to earn his father's recognition and prove his own worth independent of his family name.
In terms of personality, Jin-Ho is characterized by his genuine warmth, loyalty, and naivety. He is often portrayed as a source of comic relief, largely due to his habit of wearing overly flashy, expensive, and heavy armor that makes him a target despite his low rank. Underneath this ostentatious exterior, he is a kind-hearted, brave, and trustworthy individual. In a world where betrayal and arrogance are common among Hunters, Jin-Ho stands out for his pure and honest nature, never judging others by their strength but by their character. His defining trait is his fierce, almost unwavering loyalty to Sung Jin-Woo. After Jin-Woo saves his life, Jin-Ho develops immense respect and admiration for him, viewing him as a mentor and an older brother figure, and consistently refers to him as Boss.
Jin-Ho's primary motivation throughout the story is twofold. Initially, he seeks to establish himself by becoming the Guild Master of the future Yoojin Guild, a plan that involves recruiting Jin-Woo. However, this ambition evolves as his bond with Jin-Woo deepens. He ultimately abandons his own goal to support Jin-Woo's dream of creating a guild, accepting the role of Vice Guild Master of the Ahjin Guild. He is motivated by a desire for self-reliance and a genuine wish to stand beside someone he truly respects.
His role in the story is multifaceted. He acts as Jin-Woo's primary human confidant and emotional anchor, providing a sense of normalcy and brotherly camaraderie that contrasts with Jin-Woo's increasingly isolated and powerful journey. While he is not a powerful fighter, he handles the administrative and financial management of their guild, leveraging his business acumen and resources to support Jin-Woo in non-combative but crucial ways. He accompanies Jin-Woo on numerous raids, from low-level dungeons to high-stakes S-Rank missions in Japan, serving as a loyal second-in-command.
Key relationships define his character arc. His relationship with Sung Jin-Woo is the most significant, evolving from a frightened subordinate to a trusted best friend who would stand by Jin-Woo no matter the odds. He shares a caring, brotherly relationship with Jin-Woo's sister, Jin-Ah, whom he eventually marries in the story's epilogue, becoming Jin-Woo's brother-in-law. His relationship with his stern and powerful father, Chairman Yoo Myunghan, is a source of internal conflict and motivation, as he strives to be seen as competent in his own right.
As a character, Jin-Ho shows notable development. He begins as a naive, well-equipped rich kid who is easily taken advantage of. After his near-death experience and subsequent partnership with Jin-Woo, he grows into a more capable, determined, and self-assured individual who finds his purpose not in leading a guild but in supporting his best friend. He moves from being someone who hides behind his gear to someone who displays genuine endurance and bravery, such as when he protects civilians from falling debris or endures torture.
Regarding abilities, Jin-Ho is a D-Rank Tanker, a class focused on defense and endurance. While his combat skills are unremarkable compared to higher-ranked Hunters, he possesses considerable resilience. He has demonstrated the ability to endure significant physical punishment, including protecting elderly civilians from collapsing rubble and surviving a brutal torture session at the hands of the powerful Hunter Hwang Dong-Su. He compensates for his lower rank by using high-quality, expensive defensive gear, though this often draws unwanted attention. His true value, however, lies not in his combat prowess but in his intelligence, administrative skills, and the unwavering loyalty and emotional support he provides to the protagonist.
