Description
Morlock is an elderly wizard who serves as the mage of the adventuring party that includes Saitou, Raelza, and Lafanpan. He has light gray hair, a long gray beard, and brown eyes, and despite his short stature and advanced age, he is a high-ranking sorcerer with immense magical power. However, his memory has severely deteriorated with age, causing him to frequently forget spell incantations, the names of his comrades, and even basic facts about himself. This forgetfulness is a major hindrance in combat, and he relies on Saitou’s sharp memory to remind him of the correct spells. He also suffers from chronic back pain, requiring Lafanpan's healing magic to keep fighting. Morlock has a vulgar and lecherous personality, often making passes at attractive women regardless of species, and he is a compulsive gambler who quickly loses any money he wins. Despite these flaws, he genuinely cares for his party members as if they were his own children. His real name is Bergheim Chrome, and he was once a legendary first-class archmage known as "the archmage of the void," capable of casting spells of the tenth tier and freezing time for one hundred seconds. His tragic past involves a wife and young daughter; he neglected them while obsessing over magical research, and his daughter died of illness, leading his wife to leave him. Seeking a way to turn back time to save his daughter, he ventured on a reckless journey and fought an unknown god, losing the battle and his memory of his family. He was found and later adopted Raelza as a child, becoming her surrogate father figure. Throughout the story, Morlock's past resurfaces in moments of extreme danger, temporarily restoring his full power and youthful vigor, notably when he combines his magic with a demon wolf’s essence to protect his team. He dies from a monster’s poison but is later resurrected as an undead, gradually regaining his strength. Morlock’s role is that of a powerful but unreliable magical support whose comedic flaws conceal a deep, tragic past and a strong devotion to his found family. He also has a past as a mentor to the adventurer Gibungle, who still respects him.
