Description
Jester Garandaros is the sixteenth Wizard King in the history of the Clover Kingdom, a character introduced in the film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King. He is a tall young man with distinctive lilac, fluffy hair and sharp orange eyes that are often set in a constant smirk, reflecting his playful and arrogant nature. His attire as a Magic Knight captain and later as Wizard King includes a regal coat with white fur trim, decorated with numerous badges, and pointed brown shoes.

Born into a privileged noble family, Jester grew up without facing significant hardships. Due to his immense natural talent for magic, he became a Magic Knight, where he formed an unlikely but close friendship with two other knights: Tenor, who came from a remote village near the border of the Diamond Kingdom, and Raid, who was from the Common Realm. Despite their different social statuses, the three became close friends who constantly pushed each other to improve.

After some time, Jester was promoted to the rank of Magic Knight captain. However, around this same period, Tenor's home village was attacked by the Diamond Kingdom. The Clover Kingdom's leadership forbade any intervention, as sending forces to the border could be interpreted as an act of war. Defying these orders, Jester and his friends went on their own to save the village. They succeeded in their mission, but Tenor lost his life protecting his home. The loss of his friend became the driving force behind Jester's ambition. To ensure that such a tragedy born from political inaction could never happen again, he climbed the ranks with relentless determination and was eventually appointed as the 16th Wizard King.

Tragedy struck again years later when the Diamond Kingdom launched another attack on Tenor's village. Jester personally went to deal with the threat, only to discover that the entire incident was an elaborate trap orchestrated by his own surviving friend, Raid. It was revealed that Raid had always been a spy for an enemy nation and had been ordered to assassinate Jester. Despite the betrayal and still considering Raid a friend, Jester made the difficult decision to kill him to end the attack.

Blaming the endless wars between the four neighboring kingdoms for the loss of his friends, Jester came to a radical conclusion. He decided that the only way to prevent such conflicts and suffering was to bring all four kingdoms under a single ruler. He launched what became known as the Conquest of the Four Kingdoms. While this campaign gained support from some citizens who were tired of war, it led the royals of the Clover Kingdom to officially brand Jester as a "Mad King." His growing influence threatened the established noble order, so the royals set a trap that resulted in Jester losing his life before he could complete his goal of a unified, peaceful world.

Centuries later, the 27th Wizard King, Conrad Leto, used the power of the Imperial Sword to unseal Jester. Along with two other former Wizard Kings, Princia Funnybunny and Edward Avalaché, Jester agreed to assist Conrad in his plan to destroy the Clover Kingdom and build a new, better kingdom from its ashes, a goal that aligned with his own past ambitions.

In terms of personality, Jester presents a façade of frivolity and condescension. He often acts like a jester or a clown, speaking with a light and mocking attitude while looking down on those he considers beneath him. However, beneath this unpredictable exterior lies a highly calculating and strategic mind. He is an innate battle maniac who finds genuine joy and excitement in combat, treating fights almost like a game while simultaneously analyzing his opponents and planning several moves ahead to trap them. This blend of cruel playfulness and precise tactical thinking makes him a dangerous and erratic opponent.

Jester wielded a three-leaf clover grimoire that granted him the power of Barrier Magic. This versatile attribute allows him to create, shape, and manipulate barriers for a wide range of offensive, defensive, and supportive purposes. On a large scale, he can confine entire areas or massive structures within inescapable barrier domes, as seen with his spell Polar Night Sanctuary, also known as Voodoo Shangri-La. This technique can interfere with spatial and communication magic. For offense, he can shape his barriers into solid weapon constructs like swords, axes, spears, rotating guillotine blades, and powerful claws, a technique called Polar Night Regalia. He can also generate complex barrier-based objects such as large laser cannons that fire concentrated beams of energy. On a more precise level, Jester can produce barriers directly from his own body, showing fine control that allows him to stop bleeding from wounds or protect himself from attacks. He is also a master swordsman, capable of clashing evenly with Yami Sukehiro, a renowned warrior. His immense magical power, as expected of a former Wizard King, and his mastery of Mana Zone, an advanced technique that allows him to control mana in the surrounding area, make him a formidable opponent who can move freely in the air and enhance his attacks.

In the film's story, Jester plays a key role as one of the primary antagonists. He is tasked with locating a powerful mana vein and maintaining a barrier to support Conrad's plan. He faces off against a combined force of Magic Knight captains, including Yami Sukehiro, Nozel Silva, and Fuegoleon Vermillion, as well as Yuno. Despite the captains having much of their magic power drained, Jester proves to be an overwhelming opponent, requiring their combined efforts to finally put him on the defensive. He is ultimately defeated, but not before demonstrating the full, terrifying extent of his Barrier Magic and his nature as both the toughest shield and the sharpest blade among the Wizard Kings.
