Description
Edward Aberache is the 20th Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom, introduced as an antagonist in the film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King. He is an elderly man with white hair, a sharp, thick mustache, and a beard, typically dressed in a light blue outfit with a large cape lined with white fur that covers the left side of his body, complete with the medal of the Wizard King.

Before becoming a Magic Knight, Edward lived a life dedicated to service as a priest in a church. He was a beloved figure who was relied upon and adored by the common people, particularly in the Forsaken and Common Realms. During his time listening to priests in these areas, he became deeply aware of the harsh conditions faced by those with little to no magical power. This led him to leave his home to become a priest himself, where he took in orphaned children, driven by a desire to change the lives of the weak and feeble. A tragic turning point occurred during a war between the Clover and Diamond Kingdoms. His orphanage was raided, and the children under his care were killed. For the first time, an enraged Edward used his immense magical power to destroy the enemy, but the trauma of his powerlessness and the loss he experienced compelled him to join the Magic Knights to prevent future tragedies.

His personality is defined by a deep-seated sense of honor and a serious, rarely smiling demeanor. He operates on a personal code of justice that puts him at odds with heroes like Asta, but he fights sincerely for his beliefs. Edward harbors a strong resentment for nobles and royals, whom he sees as corrupt obstacles to a just society, but he holds no such animosity toward commoners or criminals, once giving Noelle Silva and the Black Bulls a chance to flee rather than fight. This perspective was forged during his time as Wizard King, when he aimed to eliminate the boundaries between the Noble, Common, and Forsaken Realms. Despite being beloved by the populace, his radical goals were opposed by royals and nobles who used their influence to have his title revoked. Stripped of his position and faith in the system, Edward formed a resistance to eliminate the ruling class, believing this was the only way to save the kingdom from corruption. His rebellion was ultimately stopped, leading to his capture and execution.

Centuries after his death, Edward is revived by the 27th Wizard King, Conrad Leto, using the power of the Imperial Sword Elsdocia. Sharing Conrad's desire to destroy the corrupt system, Edward agrees to participate in the plan to dismantle the Clover Kingdom and build a new, better nation in its place. He serves as a direct obstacle for the Black Bulls, using his formidable power to test their resolve. The key relationship in the film is his alliance with Conrad, but his interactions with the Magic Knights, especially Noelle Silva and the Black Bulls, showcase his honor and strength.

As one of the former Wizard Kings, Edward possesses immense magical power and is considered one of the strongest Magic Knights in the kingdom's history. He wields Ice Wedge Magic, which he can generate and manipulate to create jagged ice formations. Among his notable spells are Confession Chamber of the Frozen World, also known as World End Church, and Guardian of the Frozen World, known as World End Martyr. He is a master of the Mana Zone technique, which allows him to control all the mana within a specific area to drastically increase the power and range of his spells, and he can lower the temperature within that zone to absolute zero. His power is such that he could effortlessly battle against the entire Black Bulls squad while admitting he was going easy on them. His magical abilities are all contained within a three-leaf clover grimoire.
