Description
Kenichi Minezaki, a sixth-grade student at Harukaze Elementary School, stands as one of Earth's main protagonists chosen by the ancient protector Eldran to combat the Mechanization Empire. His parents run the sports store "Mineeaki Sports." Kenichi embodies an active, cheerful spirit, excelling in skateboarding and sports while facing academic challenges. He shares a close bond with classmates Saneyasu Mushanokoji ("Bon") and Kazutaka Seki ("Chobi"), often playing soccer together. Within the school, however, Kenichi earns a reputation as a troublemaker, frequently provoking conflicts with peers like Shinobu Asaoka, Goro Ishida, Taro Shirogane, or others.
As the primary pilot of Mach Ptera, Kenichi commands the flying dinosaur component of their mecha. This unit forms the arms, wings, and back during the "Nekketsu Gattai" (Hot-Blooded Merge) sequence, creating the combined robot Gosaurer with Kenichi leading from its head cockpit. He later transitions to pilot the advanced King Gosaurer. While Kenichi assumes leadership in combat, this role demands coordination with other pilots, such as Shinobu Asaoka and Hiromi Tachibana for Gosaurer, and Taro Shirogane and Youji Hiyama for King Gosaurer.
Kenichi's hot-blooded, impulsive nature often drives him to rash actions, fitting the "Id" archetype among the pilots. Despite abrasive tendencies and moments of immaturity, he demonstrates deep loyalty to his teammates, embodying a "Jerk with a Heart of Gold." His recurring conflicts with Shinobu, especially when he provokes her by calling her a tomboy, ignite her fury. These interpersonal clashes sometimes disrupt operations, like causing incorrect pilot assignments within the Saurers.
A pivotal story arc sees Kenichi temporarily transformed into a cyborg after exposure to a mechanization ray from the Mechanization Empire's Hagurama-Daioh. This condition grants enhanced mechanical abilities in battle, which Kenichi views as a curse. The mechanization nearly proves fatal during a confrontation with the combined Machine Great King. Kenichi is ultimately restored to human physiology using a matter restoration device developed by General Takeda of the Defense Force. Following intense battles against the Kikaishin emperor, Kenichi graduates from Harukaze Elementary alongside his fellow Saurers.
