TV-Series
Description
Akari Watanabe is the main female protagonist of the series, a high school student navigating the challenges of her school's mandatory marriage practical program. This program pairs male and female students to simulate married life, with couples earning points that can eventually allow them to switch partners. Akari, a self-identified gyaru known for her fashionable and outgoing style, enters this arrangement with a clear goal. She is paired with Jirō Yakuin, a quiet and introverted classmate, but her heart is set on the popular and handsome Minami Tenjin, whom she has admired for two years since he once defended her from a false accusation. Her initial motivation is to cooperate with Jirō, act as a perfect newlywed couple, and earn enough points to switch partners and be with Minami.

Physically, Akari is a striking figure with waist-length pink hair typically styled in twin buns and blue-green eyes. She is very conscious of her appearance, often modifying her school uniform to expose her shoulders and wearing accessories like red heart-shaped earrings and a scrunchie on her leg. Outside of school, her fashion leans toward revealing tops and shorts, though she owns an extensive collection of accessories and takes great pride in her ever-changing nail art, a passion she hopes to turn into a career as a nail stylist.

Her personality is more complex than the flashy gyaru stereotype suggests. Initially, she appears brash, confident, and disdainful of being paired with someone like Jirō, but this attitude is largely a facade masking her disappointment. As she spends time with Jirō, her genuine nature emerges as kind, friendly, and surprisingly responsible. She takes the lead in cooking and cleaning during their practical, often scolding Jirō for his messes. Despite her domestic diligence, she dislikes studying and procrastinates on schoolwork, though she is capable of learning quickly and even outperforming Jirō on a test when she applies herself. A key aspect of her personality is her high regard for true love and commitment. She is disgusted by the program's encouragement of multiple partners, comparing it to serial divorce, and despite her teasing of Jirō for being a virgin, she lacks much romantic experience herself, with Jirō being her first kiss.

Akari's background significantly shapes her desires in a partner. Her father was frequently absent due to work, leaving her mother to handle stress alone. This experience led Akari to value kindness and reliability above all else, traits she initially saw in Minami but eventually recognizes in Jirō. Her feelings for Jirō develop gradually as they live together. While she continues to pursue Minami, she becomes increasingly jealous of Jirō's interactions with his childhood friend, Shiori Sakurazaka. A turning point occurs at a fireworks festival when she sees Minami with Shiori, breaking down in tears. It is Jirō, not Minami, who is there to comfort her. Later, when she confesses to Minami, he gently rejects her, helping her realize that her feelings have genuinely shifted toward Jirō.

Akari's key relationships define her journey. Her partnership with Jirō evolves from sarcastic hostility—she calls him names like Virgin-kun—to genuine affection and a proactive effort to deepen their bond, including initiating dates and wearing a maid costume to get his attention. She becomes jealous and insecure when he spends time with Shiori, yet she also shows vulnerability, relying on him for comfort when scared. Her friends Natsumi and Sachi provide support, while her former crush Minami ultimately becomes an ally in her romantic pursuit of Jirō. Throughout the series, Akari demonstrates notable abilities beyond her domestic skills. She possesses social intelligence and adapts quickly to new situations, using her looks and playful flirting to tease Jirō. However, she also has several fears, including arachnophobia, nyctophobia, and astraphobia, which make her reliant on Jirō for emotional support. Her development is marked by a shift from pursuing an idealized crush to embracing a real, complicated love, ultimately prioritizing her relationship with Jirō over the practical's original goal of switching partners.
