Description
Marlowe Faustus is a significant figure in the anime Bakugan: Evolutions, serving as the founder and original headmaster of the Bakugan Academy. He was initially presented as a knowledgeable and authoritative leader who established the academy to train brawlers capable of handling the dangerous Elemental Energy Surges threatening both Earth and Vestroia. His background reveals that he was once the brawler of a Haos Bakugan named Wrath, with whom he shared a close bond. Faustus’s motivations were rooted in a sincere desire to improve the connection between humans and Bakugan, but Wrath deceived him into believing that creating Elemental Storms would strengthen those bonds. In reality, the storms were destructive and unleashed a darker, more aggressive side of Faustus that worked alongside Wrath to generate more chaos. This dark side acted as a temporary antagonist, directly responsible for much of the conflict in the season. After being defeated by the Awesome Brawlers and the academy students, Faustus was freed from Wrath’s influence and reinstated as headmaster, though he had to work to rebuild the trust of his students and staff. Later, Wrath returned and forcibly fused with Faustus, taking control of his body and sealing his consciousness away. Faustus’s character arc involves a fall from grace due to manipulation, a redemption through defeat, and a continued struggle against the consequences of his earlier actions. He is a skilled brawler who possesses deep expertise in elemental energy and utilizes Haos-aligned Bakugan, including Wrath in its various evolved forms and the Nanogan Echo. His relationships are central to the story: he mentors the Awesome Brawlers, particularly Dan Kouzo, and interacts closely with his academy’s staff and students such as Athena Monde. Faustus’s development shows a shift from a confident founder to a pawn of his own Bakugan, and finally to a humbled leader striving to make amends. His notable abilities include commanding powerful elemental attacks and coordinating large-scale brawling strategies to contain energy surges.
