TV-Series
Description
Galus is an elderly dwarf and a master magical blacksmith residing in the city of Granzell. At eighty-two years old, he appears to be a man in his fifties or sixties, characterized by his short stature, slightly pointed ears, a full mustache, and white hair. He typically wears a red bandana on his head and has a noticeable facial scar, with green eyes that are said to possess unique perceptive abilities.
In terms of personality, Galus is portrayed as a dedicated and passionate craftsman who takes his work very seriously. However, he is also fundamentally good-natured, casual, and respectful, never being pushy in his interactions with others. His manner of speaking carries a rough, dialect-like quality, often using words such as ya and aye, which adds to his unpretentious character. He is a clever individual who recovers quickly from surprises. His dedication to blacksmithing is driven more by a love for the craft and a desire to help others rather than a pursuit of profit. This philanthropic nature is evident when he crafts equipment for Fran, a young Black Cat girl, and even creates a special sheath for her sentient sword, Teacher. He considers it a great honor when the gods bestow a name upon the Black Cat Set of equipment he created for Fran, demonstrating that his fulfillment comes from recognition of his skill rather than monetary gain.
Garrus's primary motivation is his passion for blacksmithing. As the individual in Granzell closest to achieving the rank of Divine Blacksmith, or Godsmith, his skills are highly sought after by nobles. While he is unable to refuse commissions from high-ranking nobles or royalty due to the political implications, his personal drive remains focused on the act of creation and assisting adventurers. His curiosity is also a notable motivator; upon recognizing the unique nature of Fran's weapon, he is spurred to learn more, which leads to him taking a liking to the pair.
His role in the story is that of a crucial supporting figure and a benefactor to the protagonists. Upon meeting Fran and Teacher, he uses his special ability to discern that Fran's sword is an Intelligent Weapon. Taking a liking to the duo, he sells them equipment that had been left in limbo due to the original client's death at a very low price. More significantly, he uses materials entrusted to him by Teacher to craft Fran's exclusive Black Cat Series of equipment. His reputation for kindness also plays a role in the larger narrative; when he is forced to flee Granzell following the Fanatix incident in the capital, a large number of people, including adventurers and the Thieves Guild, are willing to help him escape as repayment for his past good deeds.
His key relationship is with Fran and Teacher. He acts as a supporter and craftsman for them, recognizing their potential and treating them with respect when others might not. Galus also has a complex relationship with the nobility and royalty of Granzell, who seek out his services as they would a divine blacksmith. Although they can compel him to work for them, his unique position offers him a degree of protection from direct harm.
Regarding his abilities, Galus possesses a special extra skill known as Godsight, also referred to as the Divine Eye. This ability allows him to appraise weapons with complete accuracy, bypassing any form of concealment or obfuscation. Through this power, he is able to see the true status of Teacher and recognize it as a sentient weapon. His primary capability, however, is his masterful magical blacksmithing and his use of magic circles to repair equipment. He is a level 33 individual whose entire career and reputation are built on these unparalleled crafting skills.
