Description
Malty S. Melromarc is a central antagonist in the story. She is the former first princess of the kingdom of Melromarc. Initially appearing as a kind and friendly girl, she betrays Naofumi Iwatani, the Shield Hero, by falsely accusing him of assault, stealing his belongings, and turning the kingdom against him. This act sets the entire narrative in motion. Her background is marked by privilege; she was spoiled by her father, King Aultcray, from childhood, which shaped her into a selfish and manipulative individual. Her mother, Queen Mirellia, eventually disowns her after her crimes are exposed, and she is stripped of her royal title and given the derogatory name Bitch.
Malty's personality is defined by extreme selfishness, narcissism, and a complete lack of remorse. She is a pathological liar and a master manipulator. She uses her beauty, charm, and acting skills to deceive those around her, pretending to be a caring and flirtatious ally while scheming behind their backs. She takes pleasure in betraying people who trust her and shows no empathy for the suffering she causes. She is also greedy, irresponsible with the kingdom's treasury, and willing to commit heinous acts, including attempting to assassinate her own younger sister, Melty, to secure her position as heir.
Her primary motivation is personal gain and the desire for power. She wants to become queen and will do anything to achieve that goal, regardless of the cost to others. After being disowned, she continues to scheme, betraying the other three heroes—Motoyasu, Ren, and Itsuki—in succession, driving them into despair and causing them to unlock cursed abilities. She becomes a wanted criminal but never reforms; she blames everyone else for her misfortunes.
In terms of relationships, Malty’s most significant connection is with Naofumi, whom she regards as a hated enemy. She feels no gratitude even when he spares her life. Motoyasu, the Spear Hero, becomes her primary tool due to his gullibility; she manipulates him for her purposes before discarding him. Raphtalia, Naofumi’s companion, despises Malty for the suffering she caused.
