Description
Ilpyo Park is a central character recognized as the champion representing the Jeollanam-do region in the tournament. Known as one of the top three fighters in the country, he carries the title "The Siddhartha." Standing at 178.5 centimeters tall, he is a martial artist who wields a unique fighting style called Ssam-Su Taekkyeon, a hybrid art developed by his grandfather that combines old-style Taekkyeon with renewed Taekwondo to minimize the weaknesses of traditional techniques.

Park Ilpyo's past is marked by hardship. His father died while hosting the soul of the Nine-Tails Guardian, leading his mother to send him away to relatives at the age of six. There, he spent a lonely childhood until meeting Jin Tae-jin, the grandfather of the main protagonist Jin Mori. Jin Tae-jin became a significant figure in Ilpyo's life, praising his potential and entrusting him with his grandfather's Ssam-Su Taekkyeon book. As a sign of his admiration for his benefactor, Ilpyo often wears a hoodie bearing the mark of the White Tiger unit to which Jin Tae-jin belonged.

A pivotal tragedy that defines his character is the crippling of his beloved cousin, Park Seung-yeon. During a martial arts competition, the rival fighter Jegal Taek intentionally inflicted a severe leg injury on her, leaving her disabled. After witnessing Jegal Taek's sinister smile, a young Ilpyo attacked and broke his arm but was later ambushed and lost consciousness. The aftermath saw the once bright and proud Park Seung-yeon fall into despair, motivating Ilpyo to enter the God of High School tournament with the singular goal of winning to use the prize to heal her leg.

On the surface, Ilpyo presents a laid-back and almost playful personality, even engaging in games like rock-paper-scissors before a fight. However, this demeanor belies a highly calculating and observant mind. He is capable of quickly analyzing an opponent's martial arts style to exploit its weaknesses. When his loved ones are threatened or when he is cornered, this pleasant exterior gives way to a cold, ruthless, and determined nature. Jegal Taek has noted that Ilpyo becomes a savage animal in such states, suggesting that his nice persona might be a mask. Despite this capacity for ruthlessness, Ilpyo differs from truly manipulative figures like Park Moo-jin, as he seeks the consent of his colleagues before enacting dangerous plans and avoids treating his precious allies as mere tools unless in extreme situations.

Within the story, Park Ilpyo functions as a significant rival and ally. He shares a unique connection with Jin Mori as both were inspired by Jin Tae-jin, and Ilpyo promised his mentor to teach Mori if they ever met. Their rivalry culminates in a pivotal semifinal match, where Ilpyo's defeat triggers his awakening as the Key, a figure with the power to challenge divine authority. This revelation makes him a target, hunted by the organization Nox which seeks to destroy the Key, and sought after by Park Moo-jin who wishes to exploit its power.

Throughout the narrative, Ilpyo's relationships are central to his character. His love for his family, particularly his cousin Park Seung-yeon, is his primary motivation. His complex rivalry with Jegal Taek is born from hatred for the injury inflicted upon her. He also becomes a mentor figure, not only to Jin Mori but later in life devotes himself to teaching Ssam-Su Taekkyeon to others. As the story progresses into later parts, his nature matures and darkens; he resolves to oppose antagonistic forces through legal and political means, even acting as a double agent within the World Government. He eventually forms a new defense body known as the Ex-Judges and becomes the World President. Ilpyo also carries guilt for his role in breaking the Taboo, an act that inadvertently led to the suffering of Generation X, a burden that follows him until it is resolved by others.

Park Ilpyo is a formidable fighter with exceptional combat skills. His physical level is rated at 8 but rises to 13 when he fights seriously with his legs. In the regional qualifiers, his overwhelming battle aura was so immense that all his opponents forfeited their matches. He possesses superhuman strength, speed, agility, and remarkable endurance. His analytical skill allows him to read an opponent's muscle movements to predict attacks, a technique known as Gaksu which requires physical contact.

His martial art, Ssam-Su Taekkyeon, includes powerful techniques such as Nirvana, a full-body knee strike that crushes an opponent's face using the user's weight, and Jin Yeokchook, a reverse spinning kick that generates tornado-like winds.

His most notable ability is his borrowed power, the Nine-Tails Guardian, also known as Hojosa. This power dramatically alters his appearance, giving him white hair, fox ears, and fiery tails. It grants him pyrokinesis, allowing him to create and manipulate fire, summon flaming foxes, and generate fiery blades from his elbows. Through Tails Activation, Ilpyo can release his tails to amplify his power, with the strain on his body increasing with each tail. The ultimate expression of this power is the Ninth Tail Unleashed, which lengthens his hair to black and reddens his eyes, drastically boosting his capabilities to contend with divine beings and heavenly princes. As the Key, he also possesses the ability of Taboo Breaking, which can unseal the dormant potential within humans to allow them to harm gods.
