Description
Mandeok Sang, also known within the religious organization Nox as Eskalios Von Ragne Sang Man-Jin, is a bishop of Nox and a major antagonist in the story. Born with physical frailty, he was confined to a wheelchair for the first eighteen years of his life. His sister, Sang Mansuk, a prophet of Nox, conducted experimental harvesting of his organs, an act that fueled her guilt and left him with lifelong weakness. Despite this early infirmity, Mandeok devoted himself to extensive study and eventually awakened his own borrowed power, achieving a level of strength comparable to the elite fighters known as the Six.

As a character, Mandeok is a hardliner who harbors a strong dislike for humanity, a sentiment recognized even within the already intolerant Nox. He is fanatically devoted to the belief that an absolute god must descend to save the world from humanity’s corruption. This religious zeal drives his primary motivation: to eradicate all other users of borrowed power, or Charyeok, and to prepare the way for his god’s arrival. He is ruthless and willing to use extreme methods, including sacrificing eliminated competitors to amplify his own abilities.

Mandeok’s role in the story begins as a hidden bishop of Nox, working behind the scenes during the God of High School tournament. He later emerges as a direct threat, effortlessly defeating multiple judges—O, Q, R, and P—in combat while simultaneously holding off powerful fighters such as Jeon Jaesan and Park Mubong. His actions are pivotal in the conflict between Nox and the main protagonists. Seventeen years after the cataclysmic event known as Ragnarok, he continues to serve as a bishop in the reformed Neo Nox under the rule of Yu Mira.

His key relationships include a complex bond with his sister Sang Mansuk, whose experiments caused him both physical suffering and a path to power. He is subordinate to the King, the leader of Nox, and interacts frequently with other bishops. Later, he shifts his allegiance to serve Yu Mira.

Mandeok undergoes significant development from a physically helpless individual into one of the most formidable figures in the series. His abilities center on the power known as God's Blades, which allows him to create and control gigantic swords. He can also summon heavenly troops, including nephilim and angels, to fight for him. Most distinctively, his power does not simply borrow from a god but rather summons the god itself directly, a capability considered extraordinarily dangerous before the breaking of the Taboo. He eventually succeeds in summoning the god Beelzebub, the current lord of the first heaven, becoming intoxicated with that power yet maintaining his original desire to save the world through divine intervention.
