Description
Keel is a young demi-human from Raphtalia's home village and is one of her childhood friends. Keel possesses dog-like features, including ears and a tail, and is initially mistaken for a boy due to a tomboyish appearance and being raised as male by a father who believed gender was a state of mind. Later developments confirm that Keel is biologically female.

Personality wise, Keel can be somewhat bratty and whiny, particularly when begging Naofumi for food, but beneath this exterior lies a determined and loyal individual. Despite having a gluttonous streak and sometimes acting recklessly, Keel naturally helps bring other slaves together and acts as a leader figure among the children in Naofumi's village.

Keel's background is tragic, having survived the first Wave that destroyed her village alongside Raphtalia. In the aftermath, she was captured by slave traders taking advantage of the devastation and was eventually purchased by the corrupt noble Idol Rabier, where she was imprisoned in his mansion's basement. Keel is one of the first villagers rescued by Naofumi and Raphtalia when they return to free the remaining captives.

Keel's primary motivation is to grow stronger in order to fight the Waves of Catastrophe and to help rebuild Lurolona Village alongside Raphtalia. After being rescued, she willingly becomes Naofumi's slave to gain the strength and opportunity needed for this goal. Initially hostile and distrustful toward Naofumi due to past trauma, she quickly warms up to him upon learning his identity as the Shield Hero and witnessing his kind treatment of others.

Within the story, Keel plays a vital role in the reconstruction of the village. She manages a peddling operation to raise funds and also oversees the BioPlant fruit, which serves as a crucial food source for the community. When her biological sex is discovered, Naofumi has her wear women's clothing for her trading efforts, which unexpectedly results in her sales becoming the highest in the village. Keel also serves as the initial villager and representative for the other rescued slaves, pledging to safeguard Raphtalia and contribute to their shared home's future.

Key relationships define much of Keel's development. Her bond with Raphtalia is the deepest, as they share the experience of losing their village and enduring slavery together. Keel is initially concerned about how Naofumi treats Raphtalia, but this concern transforms into trust and loyalty. The relationship with Naofumi remains unaffected by the revelation of her true gender, as he continues to treat her the same way. Keel also trains under Sadina, who teaches her transformation abilities.

In terms of development, Keel's journey involves confronting deep-seated trauma. During a monster extermination quest, she encounters a Cerberus-like monster reminiscent of the one that destroyed her village, which triggers her past trauma. Rather than retreating, Keel seeks to overcome this fear by attempting transformation surgery intended to help her face the Cerberus, though this effort yields unexpected results as she instead takes on an adorable appearance.

Notable abilities include proficiency with a one-handed sword, and under Sadina's tutelage, Keel learns to transform into a beastman form that resembles a small, bipedal Siberian Husky. While Keel thinks this form looks cool, others find it cute. Keel can also use beast-type magic and enhance her physical capabilities through howling. Due to her demi-human race, she possesses naturally quick movements and has an affinity for transformation techniques. After being taught by Sadina, she learns to transform according to her attributes by using synthesis skills to beastify herself.
