Description
Hitaki Chigusa is a sixteen-year-old human adventurer from the Far East and a member of the Takemikazuchi Familia in Orario. Orphaned at a young age, she was taken in and raised by the deity Takemikazuchi, who is like a father to her and shaped her values and combat style. She grew up alongside her childhood friends Ouka Kashima, Mikoto Yamato, and Haruhime Sanjouno, forming deep bonds that remain important to her throughout the story.

Chigusa has a timid and extremely shy personality, often hiding her eyes behind her medium-length black hair and avoiding social interaction with people outside her small circle of friends. She is self-conscious about her modest figure and small bust. Despite her reserved nature in everyday situations, she becomes courageous and fiercely loyal when protecting her allies, refusing to abandon wounded comrades even in life-threatening circumstances. The only person she can speak to with complete naturalness is Mikoto Yamato, with whom she openly discusses the romantic feelings each harbors. She secretly loves her childhood friend Ouka Kashima, though she rarely expresses these feelings directly.

Chigusa's motivations center on protecting her Familia and living up to the teachings of Takemikazuchi, who trained her to value technique and discipline over raw numerical status. She strives to become stronger so she can support her comrades more effectively and avoid being a burden. After inadvertently causing a Pass Parade that endangered Bell Cranel's party when she was injured on the middle floors, she felt deep guilt and joined the rescue mission to personally apologize. This event motivates her to continue growing as an adventurer and to honor the bonds she shares with her allies.

Within the story of the fourth season and beyond, Chigusa plays a supporting role as a reliable rear guard and long-range combatant. She participates in the faction alliance expedition where she is parasitized by an enhanced Moss Huge and nearly dies before Bell saves her with his Argo Vesta technique. When Freya blankets Orario in her Charm, Chigusa's memories are altered, causing her to mistakenly accept that Bell belongs to the Freya Familia, and she is frightened when a confused Bell confronts her. After Hestia breaks the enchantment, she regains her true memories and joins the effort to rescue Bell. In the subsequent Faction War, she serves as a bodyguard for the alliance commander Liliruca Arde and helps weaken the powerful warrior Hegni, contributing to Ryuu Lion's eventual victory.

Her key relationships include her deep bond with Takemikazuchi, who raised her as a daughter and taught her martial skills. She shares a close friendship with Mikoto Yamato, built on mutual trust and the ability to discuss their romantic interests openly. Her unspoken romantic feelings for Ouka Kashima are a defining aspect of her character, and she becomes visibly flustered around him. Despite Haruhime Sanjouno joining the Hestia Familia, their childhood connection remains strong, and Chigusa worries about her friend's safety. Her relationship with Bell Cranel evolves from guilt over the Pass Parade incident to gratitude after he saves her life, and she respects him as an ally.

Chigusa begins as a Level 1 adventurer but achieves Level 2 after the conflict with the Ishtar Familia. She is known by the alias Twin-Winged Girl, a reference to the mythical Jian bird that symbolizes eternal connections and wholehearted devotion. Though classified as an all-rounder similar to Mikoto, her archery skills are exceptional and surpass those of her friend. After the Xenos arc, she adopts a large bow named Black Rabbit-Horse, crafted by Welf Crozzo, which enhances her long-range combat capabilities. Her Level 2 status values are Strength I23, Endurance I16, Dexterity I36, Agility I32, and Magic I0. She possesses the Development Ability Abnormal Resistance, which protects her from poison and other status ailments, making her well-suited for extended dungeon expeditions. She also knows martial techniques including Shukuchi Zettou, a high-speed movement technique involving rapidly closing distance to an enemy followed by a series of slashes. In party combat, she typically fights from the rear line, suppressing enemies and striking key targets with precise shots, maintaining calm aim even under pressure that contrasts with her timid social personality.
