Description
Neze Rankett is a member of the Astraea Familia, a once-thriving goddess-led faction in the city of Orario. She is a Beast Human with wolf ears and a tail, beige-colored hair, brown eyes, and tanned skin. Standing over 170 centimeters tall, she is notably the tallest member of her familia, which gives her a strong presence akin to an older sister among her companions. Her physique is athletic, and her movements resemble those of a wild animal, reflecting her natural agility and strength.
Born with a werewolf lineage, Neze possesses an innate beastification ability that dramatically enhances her physical capabilities when activated under moonlight. As a Level 4 adventurer, her raw physical prowess is far beyond that of lower-level fighters. She can move with blinding speed when beastified, and her keen senses, already sharp due to her race, are further amplified by her falna. She also wields a wind-based magic that manifests as slashing claws. Beyond combat, Neze is a natural leader; her judgment and charisma are so trusted that she could step in to command the familia in the absence of either Captain Alise Lovell or Vice-Captain Kaguya. Her leadership is described as almost perfect, and she is regarded as the emotional core of the group, universally respected and loved by her comrades.
Neze takes great pride in her former alias, Bloody Justice Fang, and strives to grow stronger to live up to its fearsome image. She is disappointed when Goddess Astraea later changes this alias, an act that undermines her personal sense of identity and accomplishment. Her motivation is rooted in a desire to be worthy of the title she cherishes, driving her to push her limits in the dungeon.
Her history is closely intertwined with the rise of the Astraea Familia. She joined the group about ten years prior to its dissolution and was present during the Great Feud, a conflict that led to her ranking up to Level 4 at age 18 after participating in the defeat of the powerful adventurer Alfia. Alongside her captain Alise, Kaguya, Lyra, and the young Ryuu Lion, Neze fought to protect Orario from the criminal organization Evilus. Two years after reaching Level 4, Neze met her end when the Rudra Familia accidentally summoned a Juggernaut deep in the dungeon. The monster overwhelmed the Astraea Familia, killing all its members except Ryuu. Neze’s death, along with that of her friends, becomes a defining tragedy in Ryuu’s past.
In the fourth season of the anime, Neze appears in flashback sequences during the Juggernaut incident, serving as a poignant reminder of the companions Ryuu lost. Her role is that of a heroic, stalwart figure whose loyalty and competence shine even in the face of certain doom. Her relationships with Alise, Kaguya, and especially Ryuu are close and supportive; she is a dependable comrade whose loss deeply scars the survivors. Although she has no direct interaction with Bell Cranel’s generation, her legacy influences Ryuu’s journey through guilt, grief, and eventual closure.
