TV-Series
Description
Lettuce Midorikawa is the third member of Tokyo Mew Mew to be introduced in the reboot series Tokyo Mew Mew New. She is a thirteen-year-old second-year junior high school student at Okumura Daifuzoku Junior High School who works part-time at Café Mew Mew as a waitress. Lettuce has light skin, dark green hair worn in two long braids, blue eyes, and thin glasses. She is gentle, polite, and consistently speaks in a formal manner, even with her close friends and family. Beneath her shy and timid exterior, however, she possesses a quiet strength and a strong-willed nature that only becomes apparent as she grows into her role as a hero.

Lettuce comes from a supportive family that has always encouraged her to be herself. She has a younger brother named Uri. Despite her warm home life, Lettuce struggles with loneliness and low self-esteem at school, where she is bullied by a group of girls she once considered friends. This experience left her deeply insecure and hesitant to assert herself. Her transformation into a Mew Mew begins when she is accidentally infused with the DNA of a finless porpoise as part of the Mew Project. Her Mew Mark, a pair of curved lines resembling a fish, appears on her chest.

At first, Lettuce is afraid of using her powers and reluctant to embrace her new abilities. It is through the encouragement and friendship of Ichigo Momomiya and Mint Aizawa that she gradually learns to believe in herself. Over the course of the series, Lettuce becomes more confident and assertive, though she retains her inherently kind and polite nature. Her primary motivation shifts from overcoming her own insecurities to protecting her friends and the people of Tokyo from alien threats. She dislikes conflict and will avoid fighting unless it is necessary to prevent others from being harmed, but once provoked, she fights with quiet determination.

As Mew Lettuce, her hair turns a lighter shade of green and she no longer needs her glasses, as her eyesight improves while transformed. Her costume in Tokyo Mew Mew New features a tight green skirt, a green ribbon with a heart-shaped gem, lace-up boots, and white fin-like antennae that extend from the back of her skirt. Her aquatic abilities are derived from her fusion with the finless porpoise, allowing her to breathe underwater and transform her legs into a porpoise tail when she possesses Mew Aqua. She can manipulate water telekinetically, generate air bubbles to sustain others underwater, sense the presence of individuals within bodies of water, and even witness past events through water. Her signature weapon is a pair of castanets, which she uses in her attacks such as Ribbon Lettuce Rush. In combat, she relies on her speed and water-based techniques.

Within the team, Lettuce shares a close bond with Ichigo and Mint, who were instrumental in helping her find courage. She harbors a quiet crush on Ryou Shirogane, the supervisor of the Mew Project, and once risked her life to save him by transforming into a mermaid-like form. Her relationship with the other Mew Mews deepens over time, and she becomes an indispensable member of the group, valued for her empathy, loyalty, and growing bravery. Lettuce’s development is marked by her transition from a bullied, self-conscious girl into a confident young hero who stands up for what she believes in, all while maintaining her trademark politeness and gentle spirit.
