Description
Mint Aizawa is the privileged heiress of the wealthy Aizawa family and a key member of the Tokyo Mew Mew team in the anime Tokyo Mew Mew New. She is the second Mew Mew to be introduced, with her DNA merged with that of a blue lorikeet, granting her avian traits and the ability to transform into Mew Mint. In this reboot, Mint is depicted as a high school freshman whose personality has softened compared to earlier portrayals; she retains a somewhat bossy and sarcastic edge, especially toward Ichigo Momomiya, but she is also more shy, patient, and tsundere in nature, gradually opening up to her fellow Mew Mews.
Born into a life of affluence, Mint was initially spoiled, snobbish, and self-centered, accustomed to having things her way. However, she becomes a genuinely empathetic and caring person who deeply values her friends, even if she struggles to express her feelings openly. Her motivations are rooted in a desire to do what is right, though she can be sensitive and her feelings are easily hurt. She finds comfort in her daily ritual of afternoon tea, often prioritizing this over her waitressing duties at Cafe Mew Mew, and she is fiercely devoted to her pet dog, Mickey.
Mint’s role in the story is that of a founding member of the Mew Mews; in Tokyo Mew Mew New, she is actually the first of the five girls to awaken to her powers, taking an active role in assembling the team alongside Ichigo. She frequently clashes with Ichigo due to their contrasting personalities but grows to respect and support her as a leader. Her most significant relationship is with Zakuro Fujiwara, whom she idolizes almost to the point of obsession, and Zakuro’s judgment often influences Mint’s decisions. Mint also shares a complicated bond with her older brother, Seiji, a busy businessman whose absence leaves her feeling neglected; a key episode shows her longing for his attention, and she ultimately proves her bravery when a Chimera Anima attacks. Her family background includes parents who are rarely home, leaving her grandmother to care for her.
Over the course of the series, Mint shows notable development from a pampered girl into a reliable fighter and loyal friend. Her temperament becomes less harsh, and she learns to work as part of a team despite her earlier reluctance to get involved in cafe duties or battles. As Mew Mint, her notable abilities include the manipulation of ice, which she channels through her signature attack, Ribbon Mint Echo. Her transformation is triggered by a pendant she wears, and in her Mew Mew form she gains wings, a tail, and enhanced agility, with a Mew Mark in the shape of a wing located on her back. She is also a talented ballet dancer, a skill that influences her graceful combat style.
