Description
Moe Yanagida is a secondary character in the anime Tokyo Mew Mew New, where she appears as a classmate and close friend of the protagonist, Ichigo Momomiya. She is instantly recognizable by her bright yellow hair and cheerful, fun-loving demeanor. Along with their mutual friend Miwa Honjo, Moe forms part of the trio often referred to informally as the Three Baka Trio for their playful and occasionally silly antics, though she is consistently supportive and kind-hearted toward her friends.

Moe’s background is that of an ordinary high school student with no ties to the supernatural conflicts involving the Mew Mews. She is unaware of Ichigo’s secret identity as a Mew Mew for most of the series, remaining a normal human who is simply a loyal companion at school and in daily life. In the final episode of Tokyo Mew Mew New, however, subtle hints suggest she and Miwa may have gained awareness of Ichigo’s double life, though this is left ambiguous.

Personality-wise, Moe is described as cheerful, incredibly supportive of her friends, and often encouraging in matters of love. She has an absent-minded streak, sometimes procrastinating on homework and needing last-minute study sessions. Her motivations are rooted in her strong friendships and, later, in a romantic crush. After being rescued from thugs by Ryou Shirogane in episode 23, she develops a deep infatuation with him. With encouragement from Ichigo, she and Miwa craft gifts for their respective crushes—Ryou for Moe, and Keiichiro Akasaka for Miwa—only to be initially rejected. The boys later reveal they actually liked the gifts, which delights both girls. During this incident, the antagonist Kish steals Moe’s and Miwa’s spirits to create two Chimera Animas, but Ichigo defeats them and restores the girls. Following that experience, Moe and Miwa enthusiastically decide to form a fan club for Ryou and Keiichiro.

Moe’s key relationships are with Ichigo and Miwa, whom she treats with unwavering loyalty and lighthearted companionship. Her crush on Ryou introduces a minor romantic subplot, though it goes unrequited in the narrative. In terms of development, Moe grows from a simple comic-relief friend into someone who actively navigates her own feelings and supports her friends through personal challenges. However, she remains a supporting character with no supernatural abilities or direct involvement in the main battles. Her role in the story is to provide a normal perspective on the extraordinary events, grounding Ichigo’s world and offering moments of warmth and humor.
