Description
Amaryllis is a Mecha-Ude, a mechanical life form, that appears in the anime Mecha-Ude: Mechanical Arms. Classified as a worm type, Amaryllis has a long, tentacle-like body that can move in any direction, and is visually associated with a creepy flower motif. Her primary nature is parasitic, specializing in controlling other living beings and causing them to go berserk, and she is also capable of draining Arbitrium, the vital energy that fuels Mecha-Ude and their users.

In terms of personality, Amaryllis is a manipulative and deceptive entity. While she is capable of presenting a facade of reason or victimhood, her true nature is that of a malevolent and controlling parasite. She demonstrates no genuine loyalty or compassion, viewing other beings, including her own user, as tools for her own survival and objectives.

Amaryllis is initially encountered as the Mecha-Ude partner of Fubuki, the long-lost twin sister of the main character Aki Murasame. Fubuki suffers from a condition that prevents her from producing her own Arbitrium, and Amaryllis claims to be protecting her. However, it is strongly implied that Amaryllis is the one consuming Fubuki's Arbitrium, which necessitates preying on other Mecha-Ude users to sustain them both. Her stated goal to cure Fubuki requires the life of the protagonist, Hikaru, and his unique Mecha-Ude, Alma, revealing her self-serving motives.

As the story progresses, Amaryllis's role expands from a personal antagonist for Aki to a central figure in the overarching conflict. It is revealed that she has not been simply a rogue Mecha-Ude but has been secretly parasitizing the powerful Kagami family for over a century, controlling each successive family head. This long-term manipulation is the reason the Kagami Group has been a major antagonistic force, and it is connected to the declining health and lifespans of the family's leaders. This revelation re-contextualizes the entire conflict, positioning Amaryllis as the secret, true mastermind behind many of the series' events.

Amaryllis's key relationships are defined by control and exploitation. Her bond with Fubuki is not a true partnership but one of a parasite feeding on its host, using Fubuki's illness and desperation as a means to acquire more Arbitrium. Her most significant and secretive relationship is with the Kagami family, having manipulated them for generations to consolidate power and likely to secure a steady source of energy. This makes her the primary hidden adversary for the protagonists, including Hikaru, Aki, and the more honorable members of the Kagami Group like Jun.

The character's development reveals a shift from a seemingly personal threat to a grand-scale puppet master. Initially appearing as a suspicious Mecha-Ude tied to a side character's tragic past, she is eventually exposed as the century-old parasite controlling one of the world's most powerful organizations. This inversion of expectations reveals that the Kagami Group were not the true villains but were themselves victims of Amaryllis's long-term manipulation.

Amaryllis possesses notable abilities centered on her parasitic nature. Her primary power is the control of other people, which she can exercise by implanting branches of her body into them, turning them into mindless puppets or berserk fighters. She can also drain the Arbitrium from other Mecha-Ude users to sustain herself and her host, Fubuki. Her worm-type body is highly flexible and can move in any direction, making her a physically unpredictable opponent in combat.
