TV-Series
Description
Falsch is a recurring character in the series who holds the prestigious rank of first-class mage within the Continental Magic Association and is a direct apprentice of the legendary great mage Serie. He is a human male of tall stature, easily recognized by his round glasses, his dark slicked-back hair with two long strands falling over his forehead, and his attire of dark blue robes with a short cape. Falsch often works in tandem with his fellow first-class mage and associate, Sense, with the two of them frequently appearing together to oversee examinations or carry out important missions.

Falsch is portrayed as an observant and perceptive individual, possessing a keen analytical mind that he uses to assess the abilities and backgrounds of other mages. He is confident in his own skills and his understanding of magical theory, particularly regarding mana manipulation. His personality is defined by his composure; he remains level-headed in the face of setbacks and prefers to observe and wait rather than rushing into action, often serving as a voice of reason when his colleagues propose riskier plans. This maturity is also shown in his domestic habits, as he is known to rise early to cook and ensure that Sense is properly prepared for the day ahead.

In his role within the story, Falsch first appears as an official during the First-Class Mage Examination arc, where he and Sense observe the candidates before the first stage begins. He demonstrates his perceptiveness by identifying the most promising examinees, such as Wirbel, Denken, and Fern, and also takes note of Frieren, remarking that her mana feels like that of an old, experienced mage. Later, he is the one to announce the format of the third and final stage of the exam, informing the candidates that they will be personally interviewed by Serie. His role expands beyond being an examiner, as he is also assigned to be one of Serie's personal bodyguards. During the National Foundation Festival in the imperial capital Eiseberg, Falsch and Sense work to protect Serie from an assassination plot. In this mission, he and Sense seek the assistance of Frieren's party, and he is later seen providing support from the shadows.

One of the most significant events that defines Falsch's perspective in the series is his interaction with Serie regarding Frieren's magical abilities. When Serie asks if he noticed that Frieren was suppressing her mana, Falsch admits he did not. He explains that he saw no sign of the instability that occurs when mana is restrained, and he demonstrates this by suppressing his own mana to show the resulting fluctuations. He concludes that while it might be possible to eliminate this instability, it would require an unimaginable amount of time to master, rendering it an impractical technique. This moment highlights the gap between a highly talented human mage like Falsch and an elf like Frieren, who has dedicated centuries to perfecting such a technique.

In terms of notable abilities, Falsch's status as a first-class mage marks him as an exceptionally powerful magic user. He is skilled in mana detection, able to clearly discern the output of other mages, though his skills are not on par with the most elite, as he fails to perceive Frieren's mana suppression. His area of expertise lies in close-quarters combat. As noted by Sense, both she and Falsch excel in hand-to-hand fighting, capable of holding their own against skilled warriors. Falsch specifically specializes in shadow-based magic. This unique ability allows him to perform feats such as emerging from shadows cast by pillars, or even from the shadow of another person, making him highly effective for stealth and rapid response. He can also manipulate shadows for defensive purposes, such as wrapping them around Serie to form a cloak, and can apparently retrieve or materialize objects from within shadows. This combination of close-combat specialization and shadow magic makes him a natural fit for missions requiring assassination prevention and close-range defense. During a high-stakes mission in the Empire to protect Serie, Falsch's combat abilities are pushed to their limit, resulting in him suffering a serious injury where his right arm is severed, demonstrating the dangers he is willing to face in the line of duty.
