Description
Nyaan, also transliterated as Nyan, is a Dragon-level Mysterious Being and a former executive member of the Monster Association. He appears as a tall, slender, anthropomorphic cat monster with light-colored fur, horizontal stripes across his back and tail, and three vertical stripes running from his forehead to the back of his head.
Nyaan was originally an ordinary house cat. He became a monster out of resentment toward his owner, a woman whose one-sided affection he came to despise. After his monsterization, he joined the Monster Association and rose through its ranks to become one of its executives, a position that placed him among the organization's most dangerous members and earned him a Dragon-level threat classification.
In personality, Nyaan is arrogant and highly confident in his own abilities, yet he is also deeply self-serving and pragmatic. He takes sadistic pleasure in treating weaker beings as playthings, toying with them and killing them for amusement rather than out of any ideological conviction. He holds no genuine loyalty to the Monster Association and prioritizes his own survival above all else, abandoning the organization the moment it poses a danger to him. Although he is willing to attack opponents he recognizes as stronger, he only does so when he holds an advantage or can strike from ambush, and he flees immediately when faced with power he cannot overcome.
Nyaan's motivations are driven largely by boredom and cruelty rather than any larger purpose. His attacks on heroes are often framed as casual entertainment, with little concern for the broader goals of the Monster Association or the fate of his fellow members.
In the story, Nyaan serves as one of the Monster Association's executive fighters during its conflict with the Hero Association. He ambushes and drives off the hero Puri Puri Prisoner in one encounter, and later preys on A-class heroes, overwhelming them as a form of stress relief. His fortunes change when he encounters Saitama; his surprise attack fails completely, and the realization that his opponent is beyond him terrifies him into losing his fighting spirit. He immediately deserts the Monster Association and flees to save himself. His arc as an executive ends when he is defeated by Drive Knight, who captures him.
Nyaan's notable abilities include superhuman strength, speed, and durability, as well as the power to alter his shape. His signature skill is flattening his body like paper so he can slip through gaps roughly three millimeters wide, pass through walls through tiny cracks, and conceal himself in the crevices of floors to avoid attacks. This makes him a highly effective ambush fighter, and his combat style centers on surprise attacks and his claw-based technique known as Cat Punishment.
Within the Monster Association, Nyaan operates under the authority of the Monster King Orochi and the organization's strategist Gyoro Gyoro, working alongside fellow executives such as Black Sperm. His defining relationships, however, are marked by defeat: his fear of Saitama breaks his nerve completely, and his eventual capture by Drive Knight removes him from the conflict, ending his time as a Monster Association cadre after his self-serving nature leads him to abandon the organization.
