OVA
Description
Ainosuke Shindo, known by his "S" racing alias Adam, is a complex figure who serves as a primary antagonist. He is a popular young politician leading a double life as a legendary and supremely talented skateboarder, having founded the underground skateboarding race known as "S". His birth date is May 1st.
Ainosuke's personality is defined by a stark duality. In his public life, he maintains a calm, collected, and charismatic exterior, presenting the image of a man with strong morals. However, beneath this mask is a deeply twisted psyche, a direct result of a traumatic and abusive childhood. Raised in a strict political family to be a successor, he was subjected to harsh discipline by his aunts, who inflicted pain as a supposed form of "loving" care. This caused him to develop a warped understanding of love, directly associating it with pain and violence.
When he assumes the persona of Adam for a race, this repressed darkness is unleashed. He becomes extravagantly flamboyant, ruthless, and sadistic, taking visible pleasure in mentally and physically dominating his opponents. He views skateboarding not as a sport, but as a "ritual of love," a twisted stage upon which he seeks to find his "Eve"—a person capable of matching his incredible skill and with whom he can share his violent version of affection. He shows no regard for the well-being of those he deems uninteresting, and has a history of deliberately causing injuries to other skaters, including some of his former friends.
Ainosuke's core motivation stems from a desperate need for escape and a profound sense of isolation. For him, "S" is the only place where he can be truly free from the suffocating expectations and burdens of his political career and family name. His obsessive quest for a rival who can challenge him is a search for a connection he was denied in his youth. His entire worldview is challenged when he witnesses the skating of Langa Hasegawa, a talented newcomer he immediately identifies as his potential "Eve". This fixation drives much of his antagonistic behavior, as he becomes determined to possess and dominate Langa, even going so far as to try and eliminate anyone who brings Langa genuine joy, such as his friend Reki Kyan.
His most significant relationships are complex and fraught with tension. His childhood friendship with Tadashi Kikuchi, the son of a servant who taught him to skate, is the most pivotal. When Ainosuke's father discovered his secret and burned his skateboard, Tadashi was powerless to intervene, an act of perceived betrayal that Ainosuke never forgot. As adults, this relationship has warped into a master-servant dynamic where Ainosuke alternately calls Tadashi a "dog" and a "good boy," using him as a loyal secretary and enabler for his secret life, while harboring a deep-seated grudge against him. In his youth, he also formed friendships with Kaoru Sakurayashiki (Cherry Blossom) and Kojiro Nanjo (Joe), but his increasingly dangerous behavior and his focus on "crushing" his opponents caused a rift, and they drifted apart.
Throughout the story, Ainosuke remains a formidable and obsessive antagonist. His role is to act as the ultimate obstacle, a figure of terrifying skill and malice that the other skaters must overcome. However, he is not a static villain. A significant development occurs when he is forced to confront the purity of Reki and Langa's love for skateboarding. Through his final, brutal race, he is reminded that skating is meant to be fun, a simple joy he had lost sight of long ago. This realization begins to unravel his twisted philosophy and offers a potential path for him to heal and reconnect with the people he once cared for, including Tadashi.
As a skater, Ainosuke's abilities are nearly unparalleled. His signature technique is the "Love Hug," a dangerous maneuver where he interlocks his board with an opponent's to control their movement, often leading to their violent crash. He also demonstrates mastery of other difficult tricks, such as the Casper Slide, and has a flair for the dramatic, often making grand entrances by parachuting from a helicopter or skating down a red carpet. His physical attributes match his skill; he stands 184cm tall and possesses a tall, broad, athletic build. No information is available regarding specific events or character development in the Sk8 the Infinity Extra Part.
