Description
Kōtarō Kirigakure is the main protagonist of the anime Genki Bakuhatsu Ganbaruger. He is a fourth‑grade student at Aozora Elementary School and comes from a family with a ninja lineage spanning over 400 years. His father, Toubei, is a strict ninja master who constantly tries to train Kōtarō in the family arts, though Kōtarō often skips his training in favor of playing with friends. His mother, Yayoi, is the gentle principal of a kindergarten, and his older sister, Kasumi, is a strong‑willed junior high student with whom he frequently argues. Early in the series, Toubei is cursed by the dark wizard Yaminorius III and transformed into a dog named Gonzales (nicknamed Gon), who later becomes a secret ally of the team.
Kōtarō has a cheerful, goofy, and highly energetic personality. He loves to play tricks and often gets into mischief around the town of Aozora, which sometimes makes him unpopular among his neighbors. Despite his playful and seemingly irresponsible nature, he is thoughtful and possesses a good sense of ability when it matters. After the great demon king Gokuark is accidentally freed, the ancient guardian Eldran entrusts Kōtarō and his two friends, Yousuke Kazamatsuri and Rikiya Ryuzaki, with the mission of protecting Earth. Kōtarō becomes the Yellow Ganbar, wearing a yellow Ganbare suit that grants him the power of super‑speed, allowing him to move with blinding quickness and even run across water or up walls. He pilots the Go‑Tiger, a tiger‑themed robot that forms the torso and legs of the combined robot Ganbaruger, and serves as the main pilot of both Ganbaruger and its upgraded form, Great Ganbaruger. He also rides the Ganbar Bike, a motorcycle that becomes part of the robot’s cockpit.
As the de facto leader of the Miracle Ninja Ganbar Team, Kōtarō is the central figure in the team’s battles against the demonic forces of the Great Demon World. He often drives the action with his ninja training and natural athleticism, though he frequently relies on his friends’ cooperation. A curse placed on the team by Yaminorius III means that if anyone outside the group learns their secret identities, they will turn into dogs; this creates comedic tension throughout the series.
