TV-Series
Description
Kaguya Yamai is one of the two halves of the fifth Spirit to appear in the series, originally a single entity known as Yamai who split into two separate beings during one of her descents into the human world. As a result, Kaguya and her twin sister, Yuzuru Yamai, exist as two distinct individuals who together are known as the "Children of the Typhoon". Her designation by the organization Ratatoskr is Berserk. Kaguya has a petite, slender figure, with measurements of B79/W56/H81 and a height of 158 centimeters, which makes her slightly self-conscious when compared to her more developed sister, Yuzuru. She has long orange hair typically styled in two side braids or a bun, and blue eyes. As part of her spiritual attire, known as Elohim Tzabaoth, she wears shackles with broken chains on her right wrist and ankle.

Kaguya's personality is defined by her loud, outgoing, and theatrical demeanor. She speaks in an exaggerated, dramatic tone, as if she were a queen or a character from a fantasy story, and is a severe case of chuunibyou, a condition where she acts out grandiose delusions. She often uses elaborate gestures and borrows German phrases to make her techniques sound more impressive, believing that as a Spirit with a tragic and awesome background, she must act in a fittingly dignified and cool manner. However, this affected behavior is a performance that is easily broken. When she is caught off guard, flustered, or excited, her facade collapses, and she reverts to a much more natural, childish, and pure way of speaking, often ending her sentences with "~da shi". She is easily embarrassed, especially when it comes to matters of a sensual nature, which makes her a frequent target of teasing from her sister and others. Despite her efforts to appear powerful and mature, she has a strong aversion to studying and prefers things that she considers cool or exciting.

Kaguya's primary motivation stems from her origin as a split Spirit. She and Yuzuru are fated to eventually reunite into a single being, at which point one of their individual consciousnesses will disappear. To determine who will be the surviving personality and become the "true Yamai," the two sisters have engaged in a long and fierce rivalry, competing in one hundred different contests ranging from violent battles to games of chance. Kaguya is fiercely competitive and claims to desire victory, but her true feelings are far more complex. Deep down, she cares for Yuzuru deeply and secretly wishes for her sister to be the one to live, leading her to try to lose their competitions on purpose. This mutual desire for the other's survival creates an endless stalemate, as both sisters value their bond more than their own individual existence.

In the story, Kaguya and Yuzuru first encounter the protagonist while the latter is on a school trip. They interrupt their final climactic battle to propose a new competition: to see which of them can seduce him. This event serves as her entry into the main narrative, where she becomes a Spirit targeted for sealing to neutralize the spatial quakes caused by their presence. Her role in Date A Live IV continues her journey as a sealed Spirit now living a normal life, but still bound to her sister through their unique past and ongoing friendly rivalry.

Kaguya's most significant relationship is with her twin sister, Yuzuru. Their relationship is a central pillar of her character, defined by a mixture of intense competition and profound, unspoken affection. They are each other's most important person, and their comedic bickering and challenges, such as who can eat faster or run quicker, are a constant part of their daily life. Kaguya develops strong romantic feelings for Shido Itsuka, the one who offered them a new option to coexist without having to sacrifice one another. She is grateful to him for resolving their dilemma and shows her affection in a more bashful and less direct manner compared to Yuzuru. Kaguya also holds great admiration for Kurumi Tokisaki, whom she considers incredibly cool and even calls "master" in some side stories, seeking to learn from her charismatic and dramatic way of speaking. She is also close friends with Tohka Yatogami, who takes her exaggerated performances seriously, which Kaguya appreciates.

Kaguya experiences notable development from her introduction onward. Initially, she is consumed by the rigid fate of her existence, believing that she and Yuzuru must fight until one disappears. Through her interactions with Shido and the others, she begins to see a different possibility. After Shido forces them to stop fighting and proposes sealing both their powers, she and Yuzuru accept a future where they can remain as two separate individuals. While she retains her competitive spirit, her motivation shifts from a fight for survival to a more playful sibling rivalry. Later, when Yuzuru is captured or in danger, Kaguya demonstrates significant emotional strength, managing to keep her anxiety in check and act calmly to avoid worrying her friends, proving the depth of her care and self-control.

As a Spirit, Kaguya possesses powerful abilities centered on the manipulation of wind. She is considered one of the fastest Spirits, with her agility stat of 240 being her highest attribute. Her Angel, which she summons in battle, is named the Hurricane Knight, Raphael. In Kaguya's hands, Raphael takes the form of an enormous lance that she can use for devastating piercing attacks, one of which is called El Re'em. When she and Yuzuru work together, they can combine their Angels to create a powerful bow and arrow for a joint attack named El Kanaph. The mere presence of both Yamai sisters in their Spirit forms can create massive storms and hurricanes, making them a high-priority target with a total danger rating of AAA. Her individual spiritual parameters list her strength at 180, endurance at 140, spiritual power at 179, and her intelligence, a point of self-deprecating humor, at 69.
