TV-Series
Description
Gorou Yatagarasu, often called by the nickname Yata, is an officer with the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO) who serves as the dedicated assistant to Inspector Koichi Zenigata. He made his first appearance in the series prior to Part 6 and continues in this supporting role as a recurring member of the franchise's law enforcement cast.
As a young and enthusiastic officer, Yata possesses a strong, earnest sense of justice and approaches his duties with a seriousness that can sometimes be a fault. His literal interpretation of rules and procedures initially leads him to struggle with the nuances of complicated situations, occasionally causing him to question Zenigata's unorthodox methods or accuse the veteran inspector of going easy on their quarry, Arsène Lupin III. He views Zenigata’s single-minded obsession with capturing Lupin as a potential hindrance to the inspector's career advancement.
Despite these early doubts, Yata’s primary motivation is rooted in a deep and growing loyalty towards Zenigata. He remains by the inspector's side out of respect and faith in his superior, demonstrating his commitment by actively defending Zenigata against criticism from his own higher-ranking officials. His role in the story is that of Zenigata's right-hand man and Number Two, tasked with assisting in strategic planning and field operations during the ongoing pursuit of Lupin.
Throughout his assignments leading up to and including Part 6, Yata's relationship with Zenigata develops from initial skepticism to unwavering support. While he remains a principled officer, his direct experiences in the field give him a more nuanced understanding of the complexities inherent in Zenigata's relentless chase. In terms of abilities, Yata is a capable agent involved in tactical missions and infiltrations, though his strict adherence to protocol can sometimes lead to practical setbacks, such as having his sidearm destroyed during encounters with Lupin. His name serves as a tribute to Gorō Naya, the late original voice actor for Zenigata, and shares elements with Hachigoro, a past sidekick to the inspector, linking him to Zenigata's legacy.
