Description
Kibao is a player trapped within the death game of Sword Art Online, known for his fiery personality and distinctive Kansai dialect, which makes him stand out among the other characters. He first appears during the early stages of the game, becoming a prominent figure in the efforts to clear the floating castle of Aincrad.

In terms of background, Kibao is a survivor of the initial catastrophe that trapped ten thousand players inside the virtual world. Frustrated by the mounting death toll, he channels his anger and distrust toward the former beta testers, whom he blames for hoarding crucial knowledge and abandoning the newer players. This resentment is on full display during the strategy meeting for the first-floor boss, where he publicly accuses the beta testers of negligence and demands compensation for the suffering they have caused.

Kibao’s personality is a mix of brashness and a genuine, if flawed, sense of responsibility. He is hot-headed, outspoken, and often antagonistic, yet he possesses a charismatic drive that allows him to rally other players to his cause. While he appears as a straightforward antagonist to Kirito due to his hatred for beta testers, his character shows layers of pride and a strong desire to protect the common player, even if his methods are aggressive and confrontational. He is stubborn in his beliefs but is not entirely unreasonable, occasionally showing grudging respect for capable individuals.

His primary motivation is to clear the game on his own terms, believing that the beta testers have an unfair advantage and cannot be trusted. To combat this perceived elite, he becomes the driving force behind the formation of the Aincrad Liberation Squad, or ALS. This guild grows to become one of the largest and most powerful raiding groups on the front lines, positioning Kibao as a major faction leader. His goal is to democratize the clearing process and ensure that the beta testers do not dictate the fate of all players.

Within the story of Scherzo of Deep Night, which takes place on the fifth floor of Aincrad, Kibao’s role as the leader of the ALS puts him at the center of a fierce rivalry with the Dragon Knights Brigade, led by Lind. This conflict between the two major guilds threatens to destabilize the player’s progress. Kibao becomes aware of a plot within his own guild to break a ceasefire agreement and take down the fifth-floor boss solo, hoping to claim a powerful rare item for themselves. When confronted by Kirito and Asuna, he does not deny the plan. Instead, citing the internal political pressure from his more radical followers, he gives a tacit concession, allowing Kirito and his party to attempt to defeat the boss first. This allows the main raid party to secure the victory and the rare item, temporarily defusing the faction war on that floor.

Regarding key relationships, Kibao’s most significant dynamic is with Kirito. He views Kirito as the embodiment of the "beater" (a combination of beta tester and cheater) who selfishly hides information, leading to intense personal animosity. He also shares a competitive relationship with Lind, the leader of the rival Dragon Knights Brigade, constantly vying for supremacy in the race to clear floors. These rivalries define his social interactions, as he operates within a network of guild politics, balancing the demands of his followers against his own judgment.

Kibao does undergo some development, though his arc is a cautionary one. Initially a passionate if misguided crusader against the beta testers, his desire for power and control grows as his guild expands. While he shows flashes of competence and a desire for fairness, his stubbornness and the pressure of leadership eventually contribute to his downfall. Later story events, outside the immediate Progressive film, depict the ALS suffering a catastrophic defeat on the 25th floor due to his poor judgment, an event that breaks his spirit and sends him down a darker path, eventually leading to corrupt leadership and an attempted coup against his own guild's commander.

As for his notable abilities, Kibao is a front-line fighter. He is depicted as a strong warrior who uses a large one-handed sword as his primary weapon and wears scale armor for protection. While not possessing the unique speed or skill of solo players like Kirito, his strength lies in his ability to organize and lead large groups of players, acting as a tank and damage dealer during boss raids. His real power is his influence over a significant portion of the game's player base, making him a political heavyweight in the virtual world.
