Description
Gamo, whose full name is Maki Gamou, is a prominent supporting character in the narrative. She is one of Hayase Nagatoro's close friends and is part of her core group of female classmates, which also includes Yoshi and Sakura. Out of the group, Gamo is the tallest and has a more athletic build, which serves as a visual cue for her physical prowess and her assertive, confident personality.

Gamo's character is largely defined by her role within the friend group as a leader and an instigator. She is mischievous, sharp-witted, and enjoys creating playful trouble, often targeting Naoto Hachiouji, the male protagonist, to provoke a reaction. However, her teasing is different in nature from Nagatoro's. While Nagatoro's taunts are a complicated form of affection aimed at pushing Naoto out of his comfort zone, Gamo's initial harassment is more direct and less intimate. Her primary motivation for teasing Naoto is not a personal interest in him, but rather a strategic way to get a rise out of her friend Nagatoro. She is keenly observant and was among the first to recognize Nagatoro's genuine feelings for the older boy, viewing his presence as a useful tool to fluster and tease her friend.

As the story progresses into the second season, Gamo's role expands beyond that of a simple troublemaker. A significant part of her character is tied to her family's gym, where she actively participates in mixed martial arts and judo training. Her family runs this gym, and Gamo herself is a capable fighter. This athletic background positions her as a mentor and a catalyst for the development of other characters. When Naoto decides he wants to become stronger, it is Gamo who provides him with a flyer for her family’s gym, setting the stage for his physical training arc. She also serves as a regular sparring partner for Nagatoro, helping to rekindle her friend's passion for judo, a sport Nagatoro had abandoned due to frustration with her physical limitations against larger opponents.

Gamo's most significant relationships are with Nagatoro, Naoto, and her other friends, Yoshi and Sakura. She shares a close, competitive, and teasing dynamic with Nagatoro, often blurring the line between friendly rivalry and genuine support. Her relationship with Yoshi is particularly notable; Yoshi often acts as a follower who mimics or echoes Gamo’s words and actions, creating a comedic double-act. Gamo acts as the brains of the pair, with Yoshi serving as a loyal but simple echo. Throughout the second season, she demonstrates subtle development, transitioning from an observer using Naoto as a pawn to a more active supporter of the pair's relationship. For instance, she directly teases Nagatoro about being distracted by her feelings for Naoto during judo practice, pushing her to confront her emotions.

In terms of notable abilities, Gamo excels in combat sports, specifically judo and MMA. She is physically strong and skilled enough to be a credible training partner for the athletic Nagatoro. She often uses her longer reach in sparring matches to demonstrate tactical advantages over her friend. Her family's gym serves as a central location for several key scenes, establishing her as a conduit between the characters and the world of martial arts within the story.
