Description
Lucia Yonazuki, known in English localizations as Luca Yonazuki, is a supporting character in the anime series Shadowverse Flame. He originally appeared as one of the main characters in the preceding Shadowverse anime series, and his role shifts to a supportive one in the sequel. Lucia is a student at the private Obsidian Academy, where he excels in academics, sports, and art, earning a reputation as a perfect and gifted individual. He is also exceptionally skilled at the card game Shadowverse, and his prowess becomes widely known, with rumors circulating that he forces opponents to retire after battling him.

Lucia's background is marked by tragedy. He originally lived a happy life with his parents and younger sister, Shiori, but his parents died suddenly in a car accident. The two siblings were taken in by acquaintances who were only interested in their parents' assets. To make matters worse, Shiori fell ill, adding to the weight Lucia carried. This hardship shaped his initial personality: cold, arrogant, and prone to looking down on others. He viewed the world as dull and boring, and he approached Shadowverse primarily as a tool to achieve his own goals, specifically to protect and provide for his sister. He exhibits a calm and silent demeanor on the surface, but when angered or obstructed, he can become ruthless, aggressive, and cold.

In Shadowverse Flame, set three years after the first series, Lucia has undergone significant development. With the threat to his sister resolved and the weight of saving her lifted, he becomes much kinder, more relaxed, and more open with others. He and Shiori go to live with Hiro Ryugasaki and Hiro's grandfather after the defeat of Wolfram Zerga and the disappearance of the Tree of Woe. During those three years, Lucia entered and won numerous competitions, including the Shadowverse World Championship, which earned him a place among the Seven Shadows, the world's elite players. In the story of Shadowverse Flame, he appears as a powerful and respected figure, interacting with the new protagonist Light Tenryu and the members of Seventh Flame.

Lucia's key relationship is with his sister Shiori, whom he tirelessly worked to protect. Another crucial bond is with Hiro Ryugasaki, his best partner and closest friend; the two were voted as the best partners in an official poll, and a voice drama highlights their dynamic. With Hiro, Lucia found someone who helped him move past his cold exterior. In battle, Lucia uses a Bloodcraft deck that focuses on Vengeance effects, which activate when his defense reaches ten or less. His playstyle is highly strategic and calculated, reflecting his intelligence and perfectionist nature. His notable abilities include overwhelming Shadowverse skills, strategic thinking, and the capacity to analyze and outmaneuver opponents several steps ahead. Despite his initial aloofness, Lucia's development shows a young man who grows beyond his tragic past to become a supportive and powerful ally.
