TV-Series
Description
Growley is the elderly head of the Zoa family, one of the three great houses that govern the Nebulis Sovereignty. He is a man over seventy years old who is confined to a wheelchair as a result of injuries sustained in battle against the Empire more than forty years prior to the main events of the story. Despite his age and physical handicap, his presence remains intimidating, and his eyes retain a sharp and intense vitality.
His personality is defined by a deep-seated and enduring hatred for the Empire, a resentment that has not faded over the decades. This animosity is so pronounced that he has expressed a belief that if he had not lost the use of his legs half a century ago, he would have reduced the imperial capital to ashes. However, this ferocity is tempered by a sharp political intellect and a surprising degree of rationality. He acknowledges the competence of the current queen and is able to see through the hidden conspiracies of other noble houses, particularly the Hydra family. His authority and confidence in his own abilities make him a figure who is both respected and feared, even among his allies.
Motivated by his unwavering grudge against the Empire, Growley sees an opportunity for revenge when enemy forces approach him directly. He views such confrontations not with fear, but with a sense of exhilaration. His primary role in the story is that of a formidable antagonist and a powerful political player within the Sovereignty. He represents one of the major internal powers whose actions shape the conflict with the Empire.
Growley possesses a unique and extremely rare astral spirit known as Sin. This is a counterattack-type ability that automatically activates when an adversary commits one of seven specific acts against him, which are classified as deadly sins. These acts include launching a preemptive strike, repeating an offense, using weapons, exploiting a numerical advantage, causing destruction, lying, or committing betrayal. Once triggered, the spirit summons large beings made of purple astral energy called Avatar Beasts. These avatars can take the forms of monsters like Cerberus, lions, or giants. The power of the Sin spirit is that the more sins the enemy commits, the more the avatar proliferates and grows in size, potentially becoming even larger than the Moon Tower. These avatars are immune to physical interference from opponents but can themselves physically affect the real world, making them extraordinarily dangerous. A key weakness is that the avatars cannot distinguish between friend and foe, destroying everything in their path toward the sinner. Furthermore, attacks from machines, which lack human intent, are less effective against this spirit.
In terms of key relationships, Growley is the patriarch of the Zoa family and is respected by figures such as Lord Mask and Kissing Zoa Nebulis IX. He is openly opposed to the Lou family and remains highly vigilant against the plots of the Hydra family, correctly deducing that the head of the Hydra family orchestrated an imperial invasion and a plot to assassinate the queen. Despite his political maneuvering, he is ultimately defeated not by the Empire directly, but by Elletear Lou Nebulis IX. Elletear, transformed into a powerful being known as Subject E, strikes him down in a surprise attack, leading to his capture.
His development within the narrative is marked by a fall from a position of nearly invincible power. After easily overwhelming his sworn enemy, Nameless, with his Sin spirit, Growley seems unstoppable. However, his capture by the transformed Elletear marks a decisive turning point. He is subsequently handed over to the Empire as a new subject for experimentation, a fate that befalls him without him even realizing that his vanquisher was a princess he had once underestimated. His notable abilities, centered entirely on his Sin astral spirit, make him a cheat-level opponent whose power grows in direct proportion to the aggression and sins of his enemies, yet this same power has critical blind spots that ultimately lead to his downfall.
