Description
Kissing Zoa Nebulis IX is a young girl of thirteen years who serves as a royal princess of the Zoa family, one of the three great houses ruling the Nebulis Sovereignty. She is a slight, delicate-looking child with long, straight black hair and a mysterious, noble bearing often accentuated by an ornate black-and-white dress. One of her most distinctive features is the eyepatch she wears, which conceals her astral mark; unlike most astral spirit wielders whose marks appear on their bodies, her mark resides directly within her eyes, manifesting as snaking patterns when she utilizes her powers.
Raised from a young age as a secret weapon by her family, Kissing was subjected to fiendishly brutal and isolated training, primarily under the harsh tutelage of her uncle, the Masked Lord On Zoa Nebulis. This upbringing instilled in her an unnervingly mechanical demeanor; she is typically silent, speaks in a halting, monotone voice with formal politeness, and executes orders without hesitation, even those that are seemingly suicidal. Despite this emotionless exterior and her ferocity in combat, Kissing has age-appropriate interests, particularly a secret fondness for stuffed animals and cute dolls, which contrasts sharply with her role as a weapon. Her isolated upbringing has also left her dependent on others for basic daily tasks like bathing and changing clothes, and she has little experience interacting with peers.
Kissing is the wielder of the Thorn astral spirit, an extraordinarily powerful ability that allows her to generate countless black, whip-like thorns. These thorns possess the unique property of decomposing any matter they pierce at a molecular level; she can also reassemble the disintegrated material into new forms, such as reconstructing an exploding missile or forming a massive Dragon of Thorns to devastate a battlefield. A prodigy considered to have natural talent surpassing even that of Aliceliese Lou Nebulis IX, her primary weakness is her lack of combat experience and fine control, making it difficult for her to precisely designate targets when using her most powerful techniques. A unique secondary ability allows her to directly visualize astral energy, a form of perception far superior to the Empire’s most advanced technological sensors.
Her role in the story begins as an antagonist, deployed by the Zoa family to secure strategic resources, where she was defeated by the Imperial swordsman Iska. She was later traumatized during an assault on the Empire when the traitor Elletear Lou Nebulis IX transformed into a monstrous form, slaughtered all of her comrades, and placed her beloved uncle On into a comatose state. This event left Kissing emotionally shattered and catatonic, unable to respond even to her captors. Driven by a desperate need for revenge against Elletear and a newfound fear of loneliness, she deliberately provoked Iska into a second duel, surrendered upon defeat, and begged for an alliance. From that point, she transitioned from a royal weapon into a key ally, serving under Iska to hunt Elletear and destroy the Great Star Disaster.
Her key relationships are central to her development. She was intensely loyal and emotionally dependent on her uncle, the Masked Lord On, and his fall triggered her complete breakdown. Her bond with Iska is transformative; after he defeated her and showed her consideration, she transferred her obedience and a clingy, almost childlike dependency onto him, even developing a quiet rivalry with Aliceliese for his attention. She harbors a deep animosity toward Elletear, who is her primary nemesis and the target of her vengeance. While initially hostile toward Imperials, including the Saint Disciple Mei, Kissing learns to set aside her hatred at Iska’s behest, cooperating with former enemies to confront existential threats.
Throughout the narrative, Kissing evolves from a silent, programmed living weapon into a girl capable of independent desire and emotional expression. Her development is marked by her shift from following orders to actively seeking a path of vengeance and, eventually, to forming genuine, if awkward, bonds with former enemies. She grows from a state of catatonic despair into an active participant who clings to Iska for security but fights with fierce determination, proving her indomitable will and her thorns indispensable in forging fragile alliances against greater evils.
