Description
Kazuya Souma is a young man who was summoned from modern-day Japan to the fantastical Kingdom of Elfrieden. Shortly before his summoning, his grandparents, who raised him after the death of his parents, had both passed away, leaving him alone. At the time of his arrival in the new world, he was an eighteen-year-old university student with a practical mindset and a desire for a quiet, stable life, aspiring to be a civil servant.

His personality is defined by a strong sense of realism. He tends to make decisions based on rational, cool-headed assessments of interests and outcomes rather than on idealism or emotion. This pragmatic approach is heavily influenced by his study of historical strategists and political philosophers like Machiavelli and Sun Tzu. Despite this calculating exterior, Kazuya deeply values family bonds, largely because of his own experiences with loss. He cherishes the new family he builds in Elfrieden and carries with him the last words of his grandfather, who told him to build a family and protect them at all costs. This makes him fiercely protective of those close to him. While he is not a physically imposing warrior, he is passionate about food and cooking, finding joy in recreating dishes from his original world.

Initially, Kazuya is a reluctant ruler. Upon being summoned, he expected to serve the kingdom in an advisory role. However, King Albert Elfrieden was so impressed by Kazuyas calm analysis of the nations dire financial and food shortages that he abdicated the throne to him, also betrothing him to his daughter, Liscia, to legitimize the transfer of power. Kazuyas primary motivation is not conquest or glory, but survival and stabilization. He focuses on solving the kingdom's existential threats through administrative restructuring, economic reform, and strategic diplomacy. He accepts the role of king because he believes someone must take responsibility, and he aims to be a benevolent, effective ruler, even if it means making morally complex decisions. As the story progresses, he founds the Unified Kingdom of Friedonia and later becomes the emperor of the Gran Friedonia Empire.

His most important relationship is with Liscia Elfrieden, the former princess. What begins as a political arrangement develops into a deep, mutual love, and she becomes his first wife and primary emotional anchor. He treats her as an equal partner in governance. He also forms a polygamous family, marrying four other women: Aisha Udgard, a dark elf who becomes his chief bodyguard; Juna Doma, a talented court musician and naval officer; Roroa Amidonia, the shrewd princess of a neighboring kingdom that Kazuya annexes; and Naden Delal, a wingless dragon. Beyond his wives, Kazuya is known as a "recruitment maniac" for his ability to find and empower talented individuals, such as the chancellor Hakuya Kwonmin and the food specialist Poncho Panacotta. He fosters a circle of loyal and skilled subordinates rather than relying on hereditary nobility.

Over the course of the story, Kazuya develops from an unsure college student into a confident and decisive monarch. He learns that ruling requires difficult choices, including ordering executions and purging political opponents to maintain stability, actions that weigh on his modern liberal conscience. He makes mistakes, such as underestimating the scope of corruption or the complexity of annexing an entire nation. However, he learns from these errors and adapts. His success leads to him being known as the "Great King of Friedonia," a title he does not particularly like. His values are also transformed by his position, as he adjusts the ideals of his original world to fit the harsh realities of an absolute monarchy in a fantasy setting.

Kazuya possesses no inherent combat strength and is not a warrior. Instead, his abilities are intellectual and magical. He applies his vast knowledge of modern economics, civil engineering, history, and military tactics from Earth to solve problems like food shortages, implement social welfare, improve infrastructure, and devise innovative battle strategies. He is also highly skilled in domestic tasks like sewing and cooking.

His unique magical ability is a rare form of dark magic called "Living Poltergeist." This power allows him to transfer fragments of his consciousness into inanimate objects, enabling him to perceive through them and control their movements. He primarily uses this ability to multitask, such as controlling multiple pens to complete immense amounts of paperwork. For more active purposes, he creates specialized dolls to control. His most notable creation is "Little Musashibo," a durable, humanoid plush doll that serves as his adventurer alter-ego, allowing him to explore and fight incognito. Other creations include carved wooden mice for reconnaissance and search-and-rescue, and "Flame Pierrot" dolls designed to simulate monster attacks for strategic purposes like civilian evacuation. This magic allows him to be an effective administrator and strategist without ever leaving the castle.
