Description
Ilya is a significant supporting character in the narrative, known primarily as the childhood friend of the main protagonist, Sariphi. He hails from the same human village as Sariphi, and the two share a past filled with close friendship and mutual care. This shared history forms the foundation of his deep, and at times romantic, feelings for her, as he ultimately confesses his love, stating it has been true since they were young.

The most defining event of Ilyas background, which shapes his entire worldview and personality, is a traumatic childhood incident involving beasts. When he was young, he witnessed the brutal death of his younger sister, Misha, who was devoured by a group of beast burglars right in front of him. His mother was also killed during this same attack, leaving Ilya as the sole survivor of his family. This horrific experience instilled in him a profound and deep-seated hatred for all Beastkind. He views them not as intelligent beings but as mindless, evil demons, a perception common among humans who refer to the Beast King as the Demon Lord.

On the surface, Ilya presents a personality forged by this trauma and his resulting hatred. He is initially characterized by an attitude of obsession regarding Sariphi, believing he must possess and control her for her own safety. This manifests as a twisted morality where he believes the only solution is to destroy all beasts to liberate humanity, even attempting to kill an innocent beast child to further this goal. His hatred makes him rigid and unwilling to believe that any beast could be kind or good-natured; he dismisses Sariphis positive experiences in the beast nation as her being tricked by the king.

Despite his antagonistic exterior, Ilyas core motivation is not simple malice but a desperate, trauma-driven desire to protect. He made an oath to himself after losing his family that he would do whatever it takes to never lose someone he cares about again. In his mind, rescuing Sariphi from the world of beasts is a way to rectify his past failure to save his sister. His role in the story is that of a foil, representing the human worlds perspective and fear. He serves as a major antagonist during his arc, infiltrating the beast kings palace with the intent to take revenge for Sariphis supposed death. Upon discovering she is alive, he kidnaps her, attempting to forcibly return her to the human realm, leading to a direct confrontation with King Leonhart. In his final attempt to prove his point, he allows the king to stab him, hoping his death will show Sariphi that all beasts are evil.

Key relationships are central to Ilyas development. His bond with Sariphi is the most important; his actions are all taken in the name of his feelings for her, yet he fails to understand what truly makes her happy. His confrontation with King Leonhart is a pivotal moment. The kings refusal to fight back and his willingness to be hurt, coupled with Sariphis anguished cries for the beast king, shatter Ilyas self-justification. Seeing that his actions made Sariphi cry, rather than saving her, forces a moment of painful clarity. This event leads to Leonhart forgiving Ilya, who then begrudgingly leaves the beast nation, his hatred initially even stronger than before.

The most significant development for Ilya occurs after he leaves. The hatred is tested when he encounters Maalo, a young beast cub. Initially intending harm, he ends up saving the cub from human poachers. Maalos innocent trust and politeness, combined with the realization that the cubs cries for help sound like his late sisters, force Ilya to reconsider his absolute hatred. He sees that beasts can be victims and that humans can be the aggressors, challenging his black-and-white worldview. While this experience does not completely erase his lifelong prejudice, it represents a crucial first step in breaking the cycle of hatred, demonstrating that change is possible.

In terms of abilities, Ilya is shown to be a trained and capable swordsman, proficient with dual blades. His skill allows him to fight effectively, although he is ultimately no match for the overwhelming power of the Beast King, Leonhart. He is described as having blonde hair and green eyes.
