Description
Madre is a central cosmic entity in the world of Edens Zero, often referred to as the Goddess of the Cosmos. She is the creator of the Grand Shiki Cosmos and is worshipped across the galaxy as a benevolent figure who can grant any wish to those who reach her. Her true identity is revealed to be the Overdrive state of planet Earth, which transformed itself 20,000 years ago to prevent the planet's destruction and became a colossal, humanoid being. In her divine form, Madre appears as a woman far larger than any planet, with long flowing cyan hair and five jewels adorning the crown of her head. She spends much of the story as a mysterious legend, the ultimate destination of the Edens Zero crew’s journey. Her personality is portrayed as calm, maternal, and profoundly wise, though she rarely communicates directly with mortals. Her primary motivation seems to be the preservation of life and the cosmos itself, and she embodies the concept of a universal mother figure. In the story, Madre serves as the narrative goal that drives Shiki Granbell and his companions to explore the universe, make new friends, and overcome countless obstacles. Her role becomes deeply personal when it is revealed that she is linked to Shiki’s own origins as a human from Earth. Key relationships include her connection to Ziggy, the robot who originally sought to save her from a multiversal threat, and to Shiki, who ultimately chooses to restore her planetary form rather than keep her as a cosmic deity. Over the course of the series, Madre’s nature and history are gradually unveiled, from a distant legend to a tangible being with a direct tie to the protagonists’ past and present. Her abilities are immense and poorly understood: she can grant wishes, manipulate Ether on a scale that affects entire cosmoses, and exist as a planetary-level Overdrive entity. She is also the source of the Etherion time-travel mechanism and the reason the Edens Zero was built. Despite her godlike power, Madre’s true desire is to protect her children—all living beings—and her final fate involves being reverted back to the planet Earth, allowing a new era to begin.
