ONA
Description
Akira Kagetsuki is a central member of the Monster Strike team and a classmate of the protagonist Ren Homura. His defining characteristic is a cold, calculating, and aloof demeanor, which is fueled by a deep-seated personal quest for vengeance. This motivation stems from a past incident in which his sister was wounded during a Monster Strike battle. This traumatic event prompted him to move from Sendai to the town of Kaminohara specifically to pursue this goal and become stronger. His singular focus on revenge manifests in a notably aggressive and violent approach to combat, where he carefully reads and analyzes enemy attacks, showcasing a tactical mind in battle.
Despite his typically distant and perfectionist nature, Akira is not without a hidden caring side. A momentary shift from his usual standoffish personality is revealed when he offers directions to a lost Haruma Kagutsuchi, one of the key players in Kaminohara, showing a previously unseen capacity for kindness. This event occurs about one year before Ren Homura’s arrival in Kaminohara. Haruma observes Akira’s unique battle skills and, believing him to be the ideal candidate, proposes recruiting him to his teammates Aoi Mizusawa and Minami Wakaba. Although initially surprised and reluctant, the team agrees to trust Haruma’s judgment, leading to Akira’s recruitment. Haruma had deliberately saved the fourth spot on his team, waiting for the right person, which turned out to be Akira.
Akira’s role in the story is defined by his struggle to accept change, particularly the loss of Haruma. As a perfectionist, he initially refuses to accept Ren as a replacement for their former fourth teammate, believing Ren lacks the necessary traits and cannot fill the void left by Haruma. This conflict creates significant tension within the group. However, through witnessing Ren’s leadership skills and kindness, Akira is eventually proven wrong and begins to defrost, ultimately accepting Ren and joining the reformed team. He operates alongside Ren, Aoi, and Minami as a key fighter in the team. In battle, his signature monster is Kamui, and he is also known to possess John Manjiro.
