Description
Patamon is a Rookie-level mammal-type Digimon and the partner of Takaishi Takeru during the events of the anime film Digimon Adventure 02 The Beginning. He is recognizable by his golden hamster-like coloring and his very large ears, which he uses as wings to fly. His flight is extremely slow, moving at about one kilometer per hour, so it is often said that walking would be faster, though he still tries hard to fly. In his evolved form, Angemon, he becomes an angel-type Digimon with six white wings, long golden hair, a metal mask bearing a cross, and a strong, humanlike physique clothed in white. Angemon is described as a being of perfect virtue who brings happiness, and he is completely merciless toward evil, attacking relentlessly until an enemy is annihilated.

The background of this Digimon carries a long history with his partner. Patamon and Takeru first met during the original Digimon Adventure, when Takeru was a young child. Patamon achieved his first evolution into Angemon during a decisive battle against the dark Digimon Devimon, when the energy of six other partner Digimon allowed the transformation to occur. Angemon defeated Devimon with his Heaven's Knuckle attack but exhausted his power and reverted to a Digitama before eventually being reborn. During the following series, Digimon Adventure 02, the pair continued as partners, and Patamon gained the ability to undergo Armor evolution into Pegasusmon through the Digi-Egg of Hope, which was especially important at a time when ordinary evolution was blocked by the Dark Towers.

In personality, Patamon is obedient, straightforward, childlike, and naive, while also being courageous and determined. In his early days he was quick to cry and easily hurt because of his young mental age, but by the time of Digimon Adventure 02 he had grown out of those babyish tendencies. That maturity allowed him to help guide the other partner Digimon by drawing on the experiences of the earlier adventure. By the time of The Beginning, Takeru has become a university student who is busy writing novels and is often surrounded by his friends. Patamon remains playful and would very much like to play with Takeru when he is at home, but he deliberately tries not to disturb him while he is working. When Takeru tells him that he is writing about Patamon in his story, Patamon responds that he hopes Takeru writes cool things about him. This small moment reveals his motivations clearly: he values his time with Takeru, wants to be seen in a good light, and cares enough about his partner's dreams to hold back his own wishes when necessary.

Within the story of the film, Patamon accompanies Takeru as the familiar partners reunite when a new human claims to be the first person in the world to have formed a partnership with a Digimon. Alongside the other Chosen Children and their partners, Patamon and Takeru deal with the questions and events that arise from this claim. Patamon's presence in the film serves as part of the established bond being tested and reaffirmed at a new stage of life, when Takeru is no longer a child but an adult with responsibilities.

The most important relationship in Patamon's life is with Takeru, his longtime partner. Their connection is affectionate and close, with the two described as a well-matched pair. Over the years they have supported each other through danger and personal growth. Patamon is also close to the other Chosen Children, especially Hikari Yagami and her partner Tailmon, as well as the other partner Digimon of the group. In The Beginning, the relationship with Takeru is defined by warmth and consideration, as Patamon wants to play but respects his partner's work and patiently waits for his attention.

Patamon's development across the Digimon Adventure story is a gradual movement from an emotional, tearful, easily insulted creature into a steadier and more considerate companion. In The Beginning, that growth is visible in the way he handles Takeru's adult life, showing restraint and quiet support rather than demanding attention. His evolution line reflects a parallel growth in power and holiness, moving from Patamon to Angemon, then to Holy Angemon, and ultimately to Seraphimon, one of the great angel Digimon.

In terms of abilities, Patamon can fly using his large ears, albeit slowly, and he can attack with Air Shot, a technique in which he sucks in air and releases it as a compressed burst, and Hane Binta, a strike with his ears. As Angemon, his signature move is Heaven's Knuckle, a glowing golden punch empowered with holy energy, and he also commands the Holy Rod and the God Typhoon. Despite being a Champion-level form, Angemon possesses exceptional strength, so much so that powerful villains like Devimon and Vamdemon feared him, and he was even able to damage an Ultimate-level enemy while still in his Champion form. This combination of overwhelming holy power in his evolved state and a gentle, loyal nature in his base form defines his place in the story.
