Description
Janice is a goddess and the younger sister of Jewlie, serving as a central figure in the third season of the PriPara anime. Unlike her free-spirited older sister, Janice is characterized by a strict and serious demeanor, placing immense value on rules, order, and the proper functioning of the PriPara system. This serious nature forms the core of her personality, often making her appear cold or blunt toward idols whose behavior she deems disruptive. Her primary motivation is the protection and preservation of the PriPara system, a duty she believes her sister has neglected in favor of personal desires, such as becoming an idol herself.
Janice initially operates from the shadows, supporting the Divine Idol Grand Prix behind the scenes and existing within a Rosette Pact belonging to the idol Chiri Tsukikawa. Her hidden support role is contrasted with Jewlie's more public-facing position, and she is not meant to be seen by idols. However, following her sister's interference, Janice is forced to reveal herself, and both she and Jewlie are transformed into babies due to an update in the PriPara system. Even in this compromised state, where she is confined to her Rosette Pact and unable to leave, Janice retains her determined personality and continues to exert her will, particularly through giving orders to Chiri.
Her key relationships are complex and drive much of her character development. The relationship with her sister Jewlie is initially harsh and strained, as Janice disapproves of Jewlie’s irresponsible tendencies. However, after learning the full truth about the Goddess System, Janice reconciles with her sister, and the two forge a much closer bond. She finds a kindred spirit in Non Manaka, as both struggle with feelings of inadequacy in the shadow of their older sisters. Her dynamic with Chiri Tsukikawa is also significant; Chiri listens to and cares for Janice, but their pact is tested when Janice asks for Chiri's help in a plan to steal the Cyalume Baton to gain control of the Grand Prix from Jewlie. Chiri's refusal causes a rift, leading Janice to leave her.
Throughout the story, Janice undergoes notable development. While she begins as a rigid, rule-obsessed antagonist, interactions with the idol unit NonSugar help her to open up and recognize the error of her extreme methods. Her eventual goal shifts from enforcing rules to a desperate attempt to save her sister, culminating in an effort to sacrifice herself, which results in both goddesses disappearing. After these events, she ultimately takes over her sister's position as the goddess of PriPara. As a goddess, Janice possesses abilities that include residing within a Rosette Pact and transforming. Her designated coordinate is the Goddess Janice Coord.
