Description
In Tomie: Unlimited, the character known as Mom is Kimiko Izumikawa, the mother of Tsukiko and Tomie Izumikawa. She is initially portrayed as a nurturing and caring parent who is often emotionally subdued by her husband, Masashi. When Tomie returns from the dead one year after her accidental death, Kimiko is among the family members who joyfully welcome her back, demonstrating a deep maternal love and a willingness to overlook the bizarre circumstances of Tomie’s reappearance. However, as Tomie’s behavior becomes increasingly unnatural and grotesque, Kimiko’s role shifts dramatically. She participates in the gruesome act of dismembering Tomie’s body in the bathroom, an act that indicates her unquestioning compliance with her husband’s authority and her own desperation to maintain a semblance of normalcy. Kimiko later accidentally contaminates Tsukiko’s school lunch with Tomie’s remains, an event that sets off further horror. Her motivations are rooted in a combination of fear, submission to her husband, and a distorted sense of family duty, leading her to assist in violent acts rather than protect her surviving daughter. Ultimately, Kimiko is killed by her husband when he chooses to feed her body to Tomie’s regenerating head, marking her complete victimization within the family’s collapse. She does not possess any notable supernatural abilities; her significance lies in her tragic trajectory from a conventional mother to an unwilling accomplice in horror, highlighting how Tomie’s influence corrupts and destroys familial bonds.
