Movie
Description
Haruka Tenou is the civilian identity of Sailor Uranus, a central character in the final arc of the Sailor Moon series as depicted in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos the Movie. She is a tall, androgynous teenager with short, flowing blonde hair and sharp blue or gray-blue eyes. As a student, she previously attended Mugen Academy and later transfers to Juuban High School. Outside of her duties as a Guardian, Haruka is a passionate and highly skilled race car driver whose dream is to become a professional champion, a pursuit she engages in alongside her studies. Her family background is notably affluent, providing her with access to luxury vehicles and even a helicopter named the Tenoumaru.

Possessing a fiercely independent and pragmatic personality, Haruka is defined by her strong will and unwavering resolve. She prefers masculine or unisex clothing and often presents herself in a way that leads others to mistake her for a handsome young man, an impression she does not typically correct. Her demeanor is often perceived as cool, confident, and stubborn, with a no-nonsense approach to her mission. Beneath this tough exterior lies a deep protective instinct and a capacity for profound loyalty, especially towards those she loves. While she can be playful and even flirtatious, she is also easily irritated by failure or provocation and remains deeply distrustful of strangers, including potential allies like the Sailor Starlights. A pragmatic to the point of ruthlessness, Haruka firmly believes that the greater good sometimes requires morally difficult or sacrificial choices, a stance that frequently puts her at odds with the more idealistic Inner Guardians.

As an Outer Guardian, her primary motivation shifts from personal ambition to cosmic duty. Her core mission is to protect the Solar System from external threats that originate beyond its boundaries. In this capacity, she prioritizes the safety of the planet and the future of its royalty, specifically Usagi Tsukino, Sailor Moon, and Chibiusa, often evaluating every action based on this singular objective. Her resolve is absolute, and she is willing to carry out severe actions—such as destroying a potential host of Sailor Saturn or sacrificing her own pure heart—if it means preventing a greater catastrophe.

Her role in the story becomes critical during the final confrontation with Sailor Galaxia and her organization, Shadow Galactica. As the threat escalates, Haruka and the other Outer Guardians confront Galaxia directly at their planetary posts. In the narrative of Cosmos, her fierce independence and suspicion of others remain defining traits, but she ultimately unites with the other Sailor Guardians in a desperate final battle. She suffers a fatal defeat off-screen while defending her domain, and her Sailor Crystal is taken by Galaxia. She is later revived alongside the other fallen Guardians through Sailor Moons wish at the Galaxy Cauldron.

Her most significant relationship is with her partner and lover, Michiru Kaioh, Sailor Neptune. They are rarely apart, acting as a seamless team both in battle and in daily life. Michiru is the one who awakened Haruka's powers and serves as the emotional anchor that softens Haruka's often harsh disposition. Together with Setsuna Meioh, Sailor Pluto, they form a familial unit, living together and later becoming the surrogate parents to a reborn Hotaru Tomoe, Sailor Saturn. In this family dynamic, Hotaru affectionately refers to Haruka as Haruka-papa. Haruka shares a complex relationship with Usagi Tsukino; initially distant and dismissive due to her belief that Sailor Moon is too soft, she eventually develops a deep mutual respect and loyalty, often showing a protective, teasing affection which includes using the nickname Kitten for her.

In terms of development, Haruka evolves from a solitary and morally rigid warrior to a more integrated member of the Guardian team. While she never fully abandons her pragmatic edge, her experiences and her role as a guardian to Hotaru reveal a vulnerable, caring, and parental side that contrasts with her earlier ruthless persona. Her character arc emphasizes that strength is not solely about power or sacrifice, but also about the courage to protect and nurture life.

Haruka possesses abilities tied to the sky, wind, and speed. As a Guardian, she is one of the most physically powerful and agile fighters, excelling in hand-to-hand combat and wielding a legendary blade known as the Space Sword, which is one of three Talismans. In her transformed state as Sailor Uranus, and evolving into Super and Eternal forms, she wears a navy blue and yellow uniform with long gloves and golden hoop earrings. Her signature attack involves gathering celestial energy and slamming it into the ground to create a massive shockwave, a technique called World Shaking. With her Space Sword, she performs Space Sword Blaster, unleashing a devastating wave of chaotic energy. In the Cosmos movie, which adapts the final arc of the manga, she demonstrates her most powerful technique, Space Turbulence. She also possesses psychic sensitivity, often receiving prophetic dreams or hearing warnings in the wind, allowing for a limited form of precognition.
