Description
Haruka Tenou is the civilian identity of Sailor Uranus, a Sailor Guardian who appears in the film Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos the Movie. Her name carries thematic weight, with Haruka meaning distant and Tenou combining the characters for sky and king, a reference to the Japanese name for the planet Uranus, Sky King Star. As a student, she attends Mugen Academy before later moving to Juban High School. Before becoming a Guardian, she dreamed of being a motorcycle racer, and she channels her love for speed into hobbies such as car racing and piloting helicopters.

Haruka presents herself in an androgynous manner, often wearing masculine or unisex clothing, which leads others to initially mistake her for a boy, a misunderstanding she does not typically correct. Her personality is defined by a strong sense of protection, a fierce independent streak, and a practical, sometimes ruthless, approach to her duties as a Guardian. She is highly competitive and driven by a need for freedom and speed. While generally calm, she can become irritated when provoked or when plans fail. Her loyalty to those she loves is unwavering, though she often presents a detached and stoic exterior to the world.

Sailor Uranus is one of the Outer Sailor Guardians, whose primary mission is to protect the Solar System from external threats. This role often puts her at odds with the Inner Guardians, as she believes in taking uncompromising and morally difficult actions to ensure the greater good, including the willingness to eliminate a potential threat like Hotaru Tomoe to prevent the catastrophic awakening of Sailor Saturn. Haruka's motivations are deeply tied to this sense of duty and the protection of Princess Usagi Tsukino, Sailor Moon, whom she and the other Outer Guardians are sworn to protect. She is a pragmatist who believes in sacrificing a few for the sake of many.

In the story, Haruka operates alongside her partner, Michiru Kaioh, as Sailor Neptune. Their bond is profound, encompassing a romantic relationship and seamless collaboration both in battle and in daily life. Together with Setsuna Meiou, Sailor Pluto, they form a close-knit familial unit, eventually taking in and raising a reborn Hotaru Tomoe, who affectionately refers to Haruka as Haruka-papa. Her dynamic with Usagi Tsukino is complex, shifting from initial distance and rivalry to a deep, mutual respect.

Throughout her journey, Haruka's character develops from a solitary and guarded warrior to a more open individual who finds strength in her unconventional family. She begins by strictly adhering to the mission, but through her relationships with Michiru, Setsuna, and Hotaru, she reveals a vulnerable and caring side beneath her tough exterior. Her willingness to make the hard decisions remains, but it is now anchored in a greater sense of human connection. In the final battle against Sailor Galaxia within the Cosmos movie, Haruka and the other Outer Guardians fight to defend their planetary posts. It is in this confrontation that she is defeated, only to be later reborn through the power of Sailor Moon's sacrifice.

As the Guardian of the Sky and of Flight, Haruka wields the power of wind and celestial forces in combat. Her primary offensive techniques include World Shaking, an attack that generates powerful shockwaves, and Space Sword Blaster, which unleashes cutting wind blades. In this film, she also demonstrates the ability Space Turbulence. Her signature weapon is the Space Sword, which is not only a powerful tool in battle but is also one of the three Talismans, mystical items that play a key role in the awakening of Sailor Saturn. Her power grows throughout the narrative, allowing her to evolve from her standard Sailor form into more powerful states, including Super Sailor Uranus and, ultimately, Eternal Sailor Uranus. She is noted for her exceptional physical strength, speed, agility, and skill in hand-to-hand combat, making her one of the most formidable warriors among the Sailor Guardians.
