Description
Princess Kakyu, also known by her guardian identity Sailor Kakyu, is the princess of the planet Kinmoku, a world located far beyond the solar system, and the first princess of the Tankei kingdom within that planet. Her homeworld and her character design are closely tied to the fragrant olive flower, since the Japanese word for that blossom, kinmokusei, inspired the name of her planet, and its scent and imagery appear throughout her story. Before the events of the film, Kinmoku is invaded and destroyed by Sailor Galaxia and the Shadow Galactica empire. Princess Kakyu is severely wounded in the attack and also loses her betrothed, who dies in the war against Galaxia. Weakened and grieving, she flees to Earth, where she hides within an incense burner that gives off the fragrance of fragrant olive. The mysterious child Chibi-Chibi finds and protects the burner, and Princess Kakyu remains concealed inside it while her body slowly heals.
During most of the story, the Sailor Starlights, the three guardian warriors who serve as her protectors, search desperately for her without knowing that she is already on Earth. When she finally emerges in full health, she reveals herself to Sailor Moon and the others, and she also discloses that Chibi-Chibi is herself a Sailor Guardian. Her motivation for coming to Earth is to find Sailor Moon, the legendary guardian she believes can help save the galaxy from Galaxia's campaign to steal the Sailor Crystals of warriors across the universe. She warns Sailor Moon that Galaxia is especially determined to obtain the Silver Moon Crystal, the core of Sailor Moon's power, and she joins the effort to confront the empire that destroyed her home.
